Bare Midriff Trend. Cropped Tops & Bustiers
Bare Midriff! That just makes me think of Dolce & Gabbana SS 2012 collection, with all those fruit and vegetable prints and ‘50’s inspired fashion & style. Or to be honest with you it takes me back to the late ’90’s when all you had to do to be a fashionista was to bare your tummy. Ladies we are officially in trouble. The perfect tummy is back in fashion as everyone is rocking the cropped top from the streets to the red carpet.
Is it just a fad or is it here to stay? Whatever the case I do have to admit, as uncomfortable as this trend may be it does kind of look sexy and quite edgy in a very retro way. And for those a bit self conscious – a cropped top may look so stylish and comfortable paired with high waist skirts or trousers. It leaves just a tiny centimeter of bare midriff. For an effortlessly cool look wear a slouchy cropped top or tie your T-shirt or shirt a little high up. No it’s not Beverly Hills the old series! Just the new craze in fashion. It was a hell of a thing then and it might just be the coolest thing now.
Any doubts? Just have a look at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring Summer 2012 Collection and you will be in awe! Sophia Loren might have skipped the bare midriff trend but she sure did inspire it for this show. One of my favorite collections, Dolce & Gabbana’s SS 2012 proves how retro and cool cropped tops and tiny bustiers can look. Who ever said showing too much tummy is not tasteful is now swallowing back his words!
From Gwyneth Paltrow on the red carpet, to Rihanna, Gwen Stefani or Jennifer Lopez (she does embody the bare midriff style doesn’t she?) every celebrity at any age and any event (yes that’s right, it’s not just a street style) seems to embrace baring their tummies. Unfortunately though London is a bit behind the weather or should I say the clouds these days, and while LA people are all enjoying the benefits of the sun, wise fashion, us Londoners are still stuck in blazers and scarves. Bare midriffs seem a long way ahead right now, hence my lack of street style pictures. I will though make sure to spot them and capture them as soon as the weather picks up. I’m quite curious, to be honest with you to see how many women will be showing their bare midriffs on London streets…
