The red carpet season with its glitz & glam, winners & losers & the never ending lists of best & worst dressed is upon us. With a few days to go until the Golden Globes (this Sunday) & the Oscar nominees just announced, my email, FB and Twitter are already bombarded with columns and gossips of latest red carpet this & red carpet that. So we’ve got the Globes, the National Board of Review Awards (NYC), People’s Choice Awards. Oh my! I swear to God by the time it’s the Oscars we might just get bored with so many looks, styles and gowns. Right? To tell you the truth I don’t know how celebs do it (rolling my eyes). I mean awards every night? Plus imagine if you’re a really talented face out there, it’s a new speech, new heels, jewellery, gowns, hair & makeup every other day… Back to reality now.
Basically what these events do is acknowledge talent, are great excuses for parties, and pay loads of jobs (TV, entertainment fashion, stylists, journalists etc). Plus they’re so much fun, right? January & February are the 2 months in a year when so many fashion red carpet critics are born overnight and every blogger will have long lists and posts on
their our best and worst dressed. Though I’ve always been quite against copycat subject posts… I do confess I let a few slip by. Ooopsy. But it’s such a guilty pleasure! And to be honest with you loving or hating (while constructively criticizing) the VIPs’ fashions every now and then does give us a certain (fake) feeling of grandness (Oh look at me bitch kind), as if with but a look or a typed word we could make them superstars shine or fade away. As if. Anyway… as you might have guessed in this post I’m rambling about one of these red carpets events out there. And one of the latest was People’s Choice Awards. Oh the pretty faces & amazing gowns that have graced this event…. No, seriously now (no irony intended) it was quite a well put together red carpet event (fashion wise), with a few exceptions (sorry Emma Watson, Jennifer Lawrence & Chloe Moretz). But regarding them I guess you could play the ‘different taste’ card.
So… they came, won, put on a show and now here we are doing the aftermath. Let’s see… Jennifer Aniston looked so cute & hot in yet another black leather short dress. I swear this woman has an obsession with black on the red carpet (but look who’s talking, more than half of my clothes are black). Truth be told, she does look amazing in black and her leather Christian Dior dress was fabulous. Jennifer won Favorite Comedic Actress and gave her prize some TLC. Trying to make your new hubby jealous J? Sandra Bullock was a true beauty in her Vera Wang dress & Jimmy Choos while accepting her award, Fave Humanitarian. Naomi Watts was all glam & glitter in Alexander McQueen (it’s not the Oscars just yet Naomi. Just sayin’). Katy Perry was all normal & sweet looking in Valentino as she snitched quite a few awards (Fave Music Video, Female Artist, Pop Artist, Fan Followers). Aaaand Taylor Swift (still not a fan of her) looked (gulp) ravishing! Yes she did. That white plunging Ralph Lauren dress and those turquoise earrings were fabulous. So well done girl. And her speech was pretty hilarious too as she was almost Kanye’d again, but this time by Oliva Munn (wearing a quite unflattering Carolina Herrera dress) who had a hard time letting go of the prize. LOL. Talk about a curse. Ha! Moving on, Heidi Klum was hot as always in Julien Macdonald dress and Louboutin heels. Morena Baccarin from Homeland stunned in Donna Karan and Julianne Hough looked effortlessly sexy in Tony Ward Couture dress. Oh… and just remembered Lea Michelle who was all sweet & sexy kitten in Ellie Saab pink mini sparkling
champagne dress while grabbing Fave Comedic TV Actress.
And that leaves my least faves of the night/day: Jennifer Lawrence who always looks so pretty, hot and perfect in her movies yet something happens on the red carpet… she’s always in between best and worst. In need of a stylist J? Same ‘not quite there‘ vibe had her Valentino dress. Oh yeah, and BTW was she not Dior’s face? I’d have thought she was supposed to wear the brand. (just guessing there). Chloe Moretz… well she’s just a kid so I guess that ‘it hurts my eyes neon’ Simone Rocha dress can be overlooked (aha). And Emma Watson… let us not go there. I’ve never pretended to like her, but seriously now? You do not know how to do ‘edgy’ girl, so drop it. I’ve seen this dress one too many times on her and never really liked it. What is she trying to do… channel KStew? Ha… that’s it. Talking in rhymes is the point where you know you gotta go… Enjoy :)
