2015 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Best & Worst Dressed
Either I forgot to turn off my bitch mode, OR I’m clueless in regards to red carpet fashion, but I thought this year’s SAG awards had one of the worst dresses ever. No, not necessarily worse, just meh, and incredibly ill-fitted.
Too much ruffles, too much asymmetric structure, too stiff fabrics, too ill-fitted, so no surprise those who actually looked decent landed on the best dressed list. I mean it wasn’t that hard in the first place.
Yes, Kelly Osbourne was going on about how amazing this red carpet was, and how it nailed the glamour more than the globes and I was wondering then, am I watching the same red carpet show? Everyone was in awe over Keira Knightley‘s dress. What. The. Fuck. The colour was great, hair and makeup brilliant, so was the ear cuff… but on what planet was that dress breathtaking?
Or perhaps everyone had a case of pity and remorse over her Chanel gown and decided to cut the woman some slack.
The same fake (or not) awe happened when Emilia Clarke showed up. She looked horrible. She is a stunning woman but that make up and hair killed the whole look, and the dress was… nothing. Not figure flattering, just a plain tube of dark fabric.
Sarah Hyland’s gown was OK, given the horrendous rest of the lot, but far from best dressed if you ask me. Oh and Felicity Jones... was looney hospital beauty goes to red carpet event. What the hell was up with those fabric straps? She couldn’t move her arms for God’s sake. But everyone was so mesmerised with her. Yes she is beautiful, and the colour of the gown was perfect, even the silhouette, but the upper part ruined it.
Anyway… the idea is I was blown away all right, but not in a good way. Except for a few ladies out there who went all-the-way and over the top (I’m looking at you Emma Stone and Julianna Margulies), and some who kept is simple and same-old-same-old (Sofia Vergara & Reese Witherspoon) the rest I did not like. Yes maybe they were high fashion or avant-garde or whatever… but red carpet is supposed to be glamorous, beautiful, and elegant.
So, without ranting too much, and saving my good words and bitchiness for the Oscars I will give you my list of best and worst dressed. Or better yet my Most and Least Favourites of the 2015 SAG Awards.
2015 SAG Awards Red Carpet – Best Dressed.
Emma Stone killed it with that dress, which usually is a very hard to pull off gown, rarely my cup of tea, but she nailed it. Also she took the award for best beauty look by far. Perfect hair, makeup, ear cuffs (major trend alert). Julianna Margulies was stunning. LOVED that royal blue gown on her. It was pure perfection. And, again, I’m rarely a fan of ruffled dresses, but this was was so simple yet glamorous it was beautiful. Hair and makeup super simple and elegant.
Sofia Vergara kept to her red carpet recipe: mermaid dress, bold colour. Beautiful. It’s a bit been there done that, but I guess why fix it if it ain’t broken. Reese Witherspoon was soooo pretty and simple. She looked comfy, effortless and very elegant. Loved it.
Jennifer Aniston. Dayum woman. Plunging neckline all right. Yes, she may have been a little too colour-coordinated, but at least she was not wearing black. Can I get an Amen?
Viola Davis looked stunning. Simple and very elegant. Paula Patton, Emmy Rossum, Kelly Osbourne, Maria Menunous – are some of the ladies I liked. Except for Maria Menunous taking Giuliana Rancinc’s place. WHY?!?! I don’t know whether to feel bad at how I thought she struggled on the interviews, or just call it quits with her.
Julianne Moore was beautiful in her green dress, BUUUT did not really like those tank-top straps. I mean if you’re gonna design a stunning dress with beads and feathers and sequins you might put some effort in a bit more polished straps. Just saying.
Julia Roberts…
…
… I’m still thinking. I have no idea. She seems obsessed with jumpsuits lately. I guess she looks okay. Except for those shoes.
2015 SAG Awards Red Carpet – Worst Dressed.
I will not spare anyone, so… if y’all are faint hearted read no more, scroll no more. As gorgeous and beautiful as these ladies are, they wore ill-fitted gowns, ugly dresses, or just killed a whole look with a few details. Yes… sometimes a few details is all it takes to ruin a nice looking gown.
While this time around Lupita Nyong’o wasn’t that bad, I must say… I still didn’t like it that much, and I think she just kills it in those super elegant gowns she used to wear. These 70s borderline kitsch, colourful dresses are too meh for an A-lister. Unless of course she’s no longer an A-lister.
Ah… she wasn’t that bad actually.
Amanda Peet?! What the hell was she thinking, other than nothing that is? Oh God. And to think these celebrities have the world’s biggest stylists and designers at their feet and this is the best they come up with?
And the rest of the celebrities to grace my least favourites list or worst if you will are…
Aaaaaand that’s a wrap with all these red carpets, until of course the big night. The Oscars. ;)
Now it’s your turn. Who was your most and least fave?
