The Burgundy Outfit: Is this autumn’s classiest trend or what?!

burgundy outfit

The Burgundy outfit? Well… growing up I always felt like burgundy was a colour for older people (I know I was very stupid)… chic rich grandmas going out for coffee and cake with expensive designer bags on their arms and a ton of Cartiers on their wrists – kinda style. Fast forward a few decades and what do you know: all the cool 20s, 30s and 40s girls and women of the wordls are either draped in this colour for fall 2024, OR dabbing shyly into it with a burgundy bag, a burgundy scarf, or a pair of burgundy boots… Me included obviously. Sans the Cartires and the expensive designer bags but definitely older. #haha

OR perhaps fashion is growing older and wiser with us, aka more classic with time you know?

It probably is just a case of a good old trend at the end of the day. Trends recycle, they come and go, some are amazing, groundbreaking while some are… not. And that is very okay. Such is the case with burgundy trend for 2024. Fall is known to be the season of colder weather when everything turns more sombre, classic, colours are darker, fabrics are thicker so Burgundy for fall is ultimately as groundbreaking as flowers for spring. Nonetheless we LOVE it.

And I also stand corrected. It’s a very flattering colour.

So how do we wear burgundy in 2024 fall?

We drape ourselves in it, the same way George Costanza would drape himself in velvet.

Or… if we just want to test it and not invest in it, we can wear one burgundy item. A burgundy bag is quite a cool fall statement. Or the burgundy ballet flats.

Burgundy blazer, boots, scarf… you get the idea. The point is it’s a very classy and easy colour to wear. It looks amazing paired with muted neutrals as it gives off very elegant rich vibes. Think grey and burgundy for example. Very 2024.

It’s a matter of taste but I really don’t like burgundy with denim, or white – I think it looks lazy, uninspired and very dated. I might have been traumatised in the past from a really bad burgundy outfit, so please don’t judge if I show up next on Instagram in denim and burgundy, cause baby that’s me, chaotic and confusing, AND changing my mind and my style about 2749 times a day… so there you have it.

Anyway it’s not a big deal trend, it’s more of a new fashion obsession over something that has always been there, timeless and classy. The ways to wear it are slightly different, more understated luxe, old money, 80s elegance type of outfits.

What I LOVE about the burgundy outfit trend is how unbelievably mysterious and refined it looks. It’s not red, or black but it somehow holds the best of both these strong and fall friendly colours, so that draping yourself in burgundy and wearing it head to toe is a true powerful fashion statement. It’s my fave way to wear this trend, go big or go home you know.

For subtlety I would go for all black with a burgundy bag.

What about you: are you loving this colour for autumn or you find it pretty uninspiring?
