Trend report: How to wear CAPRIS in 2025 summer?
As if nostalgically reminiscing over the 90’s wasn’t enough, here comes fashion this summer with one trend I used to adore back in the day – CAPRI pants – but never thought I’d actually wear again let alone fall in love with the cropped pants style one more time… 20 years later in mid life mind you.
I get it’s return to fashion to be honest, I truly get every 90’s item’s return to the limelight (I mean I hate to sound like the old generation… but it was the best of times). Back then every young girl wanted that look, you know the one: Carrie Bradshaw hopping around in capris and stilettos on the streets of New York, effortless and careless.
Now it’s the Hadids and Jenners and barely any effortlessness or carelessness. Sadly everything is curated these days… but I do believe in some sort of natural transition that happens eventually- from the runways to the models and then to us, mortals. Us – who with our more limited budgets, sans stylists, have to make-do of our, hopefully, good taste and fashion imagination. And we actually do so more often than not, hence the birth of a new trend courtesy of street style or… perhaps of Instagram reels. Y’all… I just sighed a little before typing this last bit… cause tbh, these days the streets are less of a reflection of trends in favour of Instagram.

And if so… doesn’t that make it less real?

Now humour me and for the next 3 minutes of scrolling this article just play some Italian music in the background, pour yourself a cold prosseco, enjoy some spaghetti and read on with an open mind for the new angle of the capri pants trend for 2025 summer, and a very much understood and beautiful nostalgia for those older looks of the 90s…
How do we actually wear capri pants in 2025 summer?
I bet you heard about the clean aesthetic girl look? Yeah well capris somehow go hand in hand with it, alongside some Italian vacation fashion inspiration, gelatto colours, sleek hair, pouty lips, tiny purses a la Bradshaw mid 90s, and a lot of basic tops to pair capris with. You know… for the clean look. Nothing is really that new from back in the day just slightly more polished and updated.
The stars of the show are black skinny capris with a mid or low waist paired with similarly tiny tops that just make sense somehow. An oversized blazer thrown over for office wear, a button down white shirt for a more chic style, or a vest for a more polished look. For evening the more glamorous the top is, the better: sequins, cropped, corsets, glitter, you name it, all is in and looks fabulous paired with some low waisted capris and a waist golden chain. Par example.
I’m sorry I just couldn’t help myself with that one. Even as I so hastly approach middle age I’m still drooling over golden chains that adorn our bodies.
Another way to wear capris is the two sets, the co-ords… they are so beautiful, so retro, se feminine and chic, yet modern and very fresh. Think buttermilk colors, gingham prints, a headscarf and some Dolce and Gabbana inspired bag to complete the look.
Shoes is where the style plot thickens with capris because, like in the 90’s, they only go with a certain kind of shoe style which is very feminine and usually has a slight heel. So when you wear capris in order to get the look right and nail the proportions make sure you wear kitten heel mules, low heel sandals, pointy toe mid heel pumps, even ballet flats work and flip flops. Platform sandals look okay too, for a more retro meets grungy style inspired by the late looks of the 90s.
Under no circumstance should you wear sneakers, ankle boots, tennis shoes. Nothing sporty. That’s not what we’re going for.
The look of the capris is chic city girl meets country girl from Provence or Dolce and Gabbana’s Italia, and nothing about these country places has sneakers or tennis shoes or ankle boots in them.

What capris are in style this summer?
Black capris with a mid or low waist are the trendiest styles. They usually have a little tiny slit on the sides of the legs. Other styles include white capris, co-ords, gingham prints, leather, red capris, pastels… Nothing is very new or very statement. The key is keeping the capri look rather simple and feminine.

I don’t know about you but I am ADORING this trend for summer. It’s simple, it’s chic, it celebrates my fave decade – the 90s – but it’s also contemporary, easy to style, works for holiday looks as well as office days.
