I swear to God I’ve travelled back in time this past few years more then the ‘Traveller’s Wife’s’ husband. I’ve been to the 20’s, to the 60’s, just a few months ago I was hippie as shit over at Woodstock alongside Janice and her entourage, then I was kicking it back in the 90s with all my besties… Those who don’t know I have this superpower must think I’m just incredibly inconsistent with a dash of sartorial ADD. They’re not wrong-wrong actually, but that’s not the point.

So I travel back in time. So what? It’s not like I ride my broom-stick around galaxies, nor am I this glam astronaut doing ‘Fast and Furious’ tricks in the universe… uh huh. I’m just riding my bitch fashion wherever she feels like going to one season. And I follow her, and we get all dressed up and dolled up to the decade we’re flying to.

But leaving the present summer of 2015 for somewhere else does in fact raise a few questions: why do we always fish for inspo in other times other than the present? Is it because they’re more enticing sartorial wise, or could it be that fashion has nothing new to bring to the table today?

Why the pensive philosophical rant you may ask? It’s these damn shoes that are making waves, after waves, after waves in fashion today: THE BLOCK HEEL SANDALS. It all started courtesy of the 70s block heel, which we so cunningly married to the chunky 90s shoes, and while all of these are still IN, a new shoe style is born. Errr… the sandal I was telling you about.

What does the sandal of 2015 summer look like?

She’s got personalty, fantastic sense of humour, she’s relaxed, confident, trendy and while she may not be as hot and breathtaking as her stiletto sister, she’s got that something you know.

She’s got a block heel, square, comfortable, that comes in all sizes from uber high to super low square designs. Her soles are thin. Hallelujaaaaaaaaah!!! Her straps are either basic just above your toes, or they’re literally having a party around your feet, and the ankles are always always shackled.

Some suckers come in the edgiest and most bedazzled designs you can and can’t imagine, while others are basic, nude, or solid shades of red or blue or green. These beauties, basic or not are having a major shoe moment this season.

So my rant basically started from my incapacity to place them somewhere in time. They do resemble the 90s sandals a bit, perhaps even the 80s. If I’m not mistaken my mom used to wear similar sandals. Yet… I can’t help but hope that these babies are a product of today. Huh?

Why do we so desperately embrace them I wonder, is it cause of their novelty or are we really sick of the stiletto? I’d go for the former, just because as much as I love all shoes, I am a stiletto girl through and through. Nothing in my book will ever beat the stiletto heel. Of course block heels are more comfortable, they’re more sophisticated, they’re more retro chic, more edgy, more trendy, more artsy, more more more more… But they’re not the red lipstick of the group you know.

However, they look great, are easy to style, can be worn with literally anything, anywhere from work to dinners out, and come in so many styles and designs, that shopping for the best pair is heaven really.

But the question still lingers in my mind: is this comfy heel replacing the stiletto? What do YOU think?

Street style inspo down below, and a list of my fave block heel sandals, I’ve put together for you. If you feel like shopping you know. :)
