Spring Jackets Alert: LIGHT TRENCH COATS
My prayers have been answered! Well, they do say if you pray hard and wish for something really bad, the universe – aka FASHION – will make your wish come true.
Explanation: remember how for the past years I kept ranting and ranting about fashion not being able to come up with some other cool jackets for spring other than leather or denim jackets? Especially when there was a point in my life when I had just had it with leather jackets. Every single human being I’d come across in my daily endeavours was wearing one. Perfect for the Ka-ching sound of retailers, but what about us, the mortals who are hopelessly in love with fashion, and do not want to look like cloned dolls in leather jackets? Or denims for that matter.
Her majesty fashion has come to her senses and finally milked her creativity to give us a new jacket for spring 2015: THE LIGHT TRENCH-COAT.
It’s a trench coat alright, but it’s made of lighter fabrics, usually draped, with a belt, knee-long, slightly oversized so that it basically dances in the sun, when the wind so gently blows in spring. sigh. sigh. sigh. Color wise, they look best in nudes and pastels.
Style wise: the best combo is wearing it with mini skirts or dresses, cutoffs, shorts — basically bare legs to get that effortless chic look. A shirt or basic tee underneath is perfection. I would even venture to say LIGHT TRENCHES are the ticket to looking French chic, with a dash of model-off-duty, and some serious private eye game going on.
‘What do you do on your spare time?’
‘Oh you know. This and that. Ok. I’m a spy. OK. An online spy, not need to push my arm on this one. … FINE. I’m a professional stalker.’
This is actually the very reason I love the light trench coat. No. No cause it makes me look like a spy. Although I’l take that too, but actually it’s because a light draped trench coat, worn for both work as well as casual occasions, is the definition of effortless and cool-chic. It can hide a lazy-outfit by making it look so fashionable, OR it can pull together a sophisticated look.
It’s the best mix of trendy, staple, spring breeziness, retro class (think 70s or 80s) with today’s so coveted relaxed styles promoted and worn by fashion editors or stylists in those Tommy Ton pics. THIS is my favourite jacket/staple/trend so far. Not that anyone cares, but I’m sharing you know. That’s what I do.
I also happen to think the light trench coat is a more classic or polished if you will, version of a kimono OR loungewear. No? Did I push this too far? Think a silk light draped trench-coat worn with a pair of denim shorts, a white crispy button-down shirt and flat sandals or espadrilles. Shut the front door. IF you love the light silky look of loungewear or kimonos, but don’t really wanna channel all that Coachella fashion vibe around town, a light trench may just be your best friend. Not to mention how amazing the same silk trench can look with a mini dress and high stiletto sandals. Let’s sigh again.
So what do you think: ready to trade you leathers for light trenches? Let me know in the comments below. :)
Peace out! xoxo
