New York Fashion Week: 15 Trends that emerge for Spring/Summer 2027
If Spring Summer 2027 feels like anything so far, is an array of various styles that un-seemingly have no common grounds. Yet in some deep fashion sense there is a common direction for next year’s spring/summer. The apparent lack of cohesion in all collections is a decoy from what we are actually witnessing: a more solid and serious if not mature approach to dressing.
Among the omnipresent stars of next season is the pop of red, which literally popped in all designers’ collections no matter how somber or dark the said collection was, leather will still be wearable next season, as well as silk and sheer pieces. Solid colors replaced the classic florals and prints of summer, which do exist at DVF par example, and other designers but are rather quiet and slightly more tamed.
The entire season feels more grown up, the consensus being a well placed necklace or bold earrings which make a bigger statement than 237 accessories. Everything feels less chaotic and maximalist and more intentional. The pieces shine by themselves: the skirt, the suit, the recent Carolyn Bessette obsession with minimalism is there (hello Clavin Klein), so is its counter part a loud maximalism yet very well curated.
Colours exist next season but are solid. The color block palette is shocking for summer: red and maron. The somber mood is of a 90s’s well dressed young adult alongside its more boho glam dishevelled but extremely rich and beautiful 2000’s girl next door. Think Cameron Diaz in her 2000 era movies. The styling of each collection is stellar. There’s a love for creamy ensembles, fluidity, boldness and femininity alike.
And a lot of black.
So what are some of the TRENDS of SPRING/SUMMER 2027 NYFW?

A POP OF RED makes a bold statement
The vibrat color that symbolises so much, and can be such a cliche of femininity and power alike is treated like a strong accessory in SS2027. A dash of red in an earring, a bag, shoes, some draped hem of a skirt, a top, or a just a lipstick against a very clean outfit speaks volumes in terms of style. You know the saying… silence speaks volumes? Well… it’s something like that. A restrained outfit that needs to do more without effort… is an outfit designers reinvented with a pop of red, and good thing they did.
2. ALL RED
What used to be more an autumn colour is now ruling SS 2027. It’s powerful, feminine, present, sexy, daring and it is everywhere next season.
3. MORE COLOURS… LESS PRINT
If you felt your heart skip a beat at all the red outfits well… designers have chosen simplicity and power and went for the classic versions of the palettes: there is a lot of yellow, green, blue (from cobalt to turquoise). Proenza, DVF, Tory Burch all showed stunning palettes, and even Calvin Klein had the most gorgeous blue long dress walk the runway. Colours next year are different than your regular summer fucsia vibrat hues, instead runway is giving us a peak into a very classic interpretation with a chip of nostalgia on our shoulders (think 70’s green, blue and maron).
Colour blocking is also present and very retro inspired: brown sits elegantly and undisturbed alongside red, as if it’s autumn, blues and greens make a perfect pair, and yellow and buttermilk are not washed out but rather creamy and warm.
4. ASSYMETRY nostalgia from the 2000s.
An ode to the 2000’s when every girl had a skirt with a weird looking hem and everything looked draped and cut-out – such are the collections of ss 2027, From DVF to Altuzara, to…, uneven hems, undone skirts and dresses, half buttoned shirts and man inspired blazer on top all create this nonchalant yet very grownup look on the runway. Clean, serious but also young and fresh. Every piece was classic but reinvented.
5. ROMANCE is in the air this spring
FLUID FABRICS and LONG SILHOETTES ruled the runways this year, everything seemed like it was creamy, windy, flowy. The woman of spring 2027 is a long legged beautiful women, who when she walks the wind swiftly follows her dress, she needs no extra accessories, just a smile, a draped scarf around her waist maybe courtesy of Ralph Lauren, some sequin skinny scarf around her neck in Tory Burch’s vision. It’s one of my favourite trends for 2027 summer and its femininity and perfection come from the beauty of long luscious rich fluid fabrics combined with this draped cut, and flowy design of the pants and the dresses. Every piece looks like a soft air or liquid around the body, elegantly moving. No bold colours are needed, no big accessories. The movement is the whole look.
6. ELEGANTLY DARK spring
At the opposite pole the runway dripped in black, but not a romantic victorian inspired spring lace kinda situation, but more so architectural, grungy (re-iterated), 80s inspired, loose silhouettes alongside very structured dresses, minimalism at its best, elegance… Black evening dresses, black A line dresses, black dresses for all occasions and styles, black blazers, black skirts… It’s not as much rocknroll (although that too still stands) as it is elegant and minimalist. Sometimes with a dash of a little more. But exaggeration is not in the books for next spring.
7. MENSWEAR at its finest
Power is at the core of all collections, with a little 80s nostalgia and some 2000’s styling inspiration, so it’s of no surprise that men inspired suits wheather slouchy and oversized, or rather fitted a la 2000’s are key pieces in many designers’ collections. Black rules, but also there’s some red and white-ish pieces that are head-turners for sure.
8. SKIRTS are the new dresses
Full skirts, pencils slit, midi, maxi, white, black, color… very single shape and form of a skirt is ruling the runway for 2027 spring and summer…
9. SOMBER & MINIMLAIST
The way I see it, or rather feel it so far is that spring 2027 is scarce in terms of prints (too little, too few – but they exist mind you), and instead is focused more on form, shape, fabric and clean lines. The year Carolyn Bessette re-emerged as the icon of minimalism has truly left its mark on all of us apparently. Calvin Klein the master of minimalism has an epic collection which solidifies just this: next spring we go back to simple basics and let true style take over. A lot of black. A lot of white, and a lot of color worn with intention.
Some designers have stripped this concept even more and the overall feeling is austere. It’s sombre. Elegant. Refined.
10. GLAMOROUS affair
No collection is finit sans its sequins and evening looks, but what designers are offering for next summer is daytime sequins, fine knits with glitter, skinny sequin scarves, metallic thin fabrics, sheer glittery dresses, satin that sparkles. It’s a very 70’s approach, grown up but with a dash of this 80s rock roll.
11. PERFECTION of STYLING
It’s been a while since designers have given up exaggeration in their collections in favour of the clothes, so them having done just this for 2027 spring summer also inherently brought about styling that is pure chef’s kiss. In fact, a pair of jeans and crop top might seem basic… but good stying will have it looking iconic. A black dress is either whatever or can become the epitome of a collection. Styling this year is epic.
12. SS2027 PRINTS: FROM DAINTY to BOLD
Two extreme worlds meet next spring in terms of prints: animal print is massive, zebra in all colours rules the runways. But here and there designers can’t not be romantic in spring so we have little flowers sitting shyly on dainty sheer dresses, tops or skirts. There’s the proverbial stripe, but not retro this time, but rater modern and even slightly glamorous.
13. A love story: THE REINVENTED TRENCH COAT
Next season this staple goes back to a past time, it’s nostalgic, straight, almost ripped off of any feminine attribute, barely any cinged waist (not in the classic trench that 26 million girls are wearing daily), no classic belt… just a basic rain coat that Queen Elizabeth used to wear on rainy days walking her dogs. It’s actually a breath of fresh air, cause tbh everybody, and I mean everyone was whereing the classic belted trench with everything for the past 2 years. Throw a stone randomly on the streets and you’d probably murder 10 people at once. It was tragic.
Luckily it’ll be over soon.
14. LEATHER means business
Leather is no longer winter’s penchant… I am curious thigh how mere mortals will pull it off in heatwaves but perhaps we’ll be rocking leather in sling rather than summer. That could work.
15. A WEIRD COLOUR-BLOCK
Using more crutches from the cold season to help us cope with summer is the brown and red combination. It’s strange, but elegant, retro but dine right can look expensively modern in a very civilised way.
New York Fashion Week 2027 has just got us started, excited and interested in more… fashion appetite is awaken and collections are not letting us down.
