2016 Rio Olympics Mood: How To Dress Sporty Outside The Gym?

The innocent or ignoramus would probably ask ‘Why the fuck would you dress sporty outside the gym?’ Awww. That’s sweet.

First of all we’re only 48 hours away from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Second we’re a generation obsessed with working out (finally a healthy obsession there), third, if you look good in leggings and a sporty inspired top, dayum rock that shit anywhere, and don’t let nobody tell you otherwise. Fourth there’s the trend called athleisure I actually wrote an article about in Hive Magazine. Fifth Rihanna or Kylie Jenner are always in some sort of sporty luxe attire and they look amazing. Sixth, super posh and extremely smart and polished looks are kinda dead, and seventh – sporty luxe, or just sporty looks fucking great.

Personally I can’t remember the last time I went out for a relaxed evening and a glass of wine with my girls (okay a bottle) and wore heels. Hmm. Of course, it could be cause I’m growing older, but with it I’m growing wiser, no?! And my sartorial wisdom is just all about flat shoes and swaggy sneakers these days. I admit I wear them all the time, regardless of what I have on.

And by the looks of it, I’m not the only one: there’s my friends who do the same, strangers on the streets, faces from the www, celebs. So, I think we’re onto something here.

Besides, I’m quite often in the gym, or going to, or coming from – so this sporty/athleisure thing is perfect for me.

How to get the sporty look outside the gym?

1. Well there’s the per se athleisure thing, which is sort of the gym outfit in a cooler street style: leggings, sneakers, cropped sports top, sports bra, mixed with a coat, a bomber jacket, a leather jacket etc. Aka Gigi Hadid for example. It is quite often worn by those on the go to or from the gym. Guilty as charged on this one.

2. The sporty minimal look which is fab for almost anywhere, especially office hours. It’s clean, it’s very architectural, and age appropriate for everybody. It involves: shades of white, grey, or black, monochromatic outfits, sneakers, shirt dresses, culottes, structured tops, minimal jewellery.

3. The track suit uber cool looks with a 80’s-meets-2016 vibe. This is so Kylie Jenner in her glam face, nails, and jewellery, AND her white track-suit, her adidas mens-inspired t-shirt and track-pants, worn with big chunky sneakers, and a very posh backpack, or even bag. Or the Rihanna or Gigi Hadid take on this look: a polished version of a track suit, say… silky, worn with jewellery and bold sneakers. Think cool 80s kitsch.

4. The casual can’t-be-bothered-but-looks-great-either-way-look. It usually involves one or 2 sporty items worn with day-to-day pieces, even more posh ones: sneakers and silk slip dresses, jeans and sports bra, Bermuda shorts and a blazer. Okay, it’s usually sneakers with everything you can possibly think of, at any given time of day or night.

5. The sporty luxe style. Ah. This one’s for the glam kittens out here (I’d like to think of myself as one from time to time), and it’s a very bold yet sexy more like going out, or making an outfit statement kinda look. It’s usually done with any of the above combos + SEXY HEELS, bold lips and some glam jewellery. Par example: track pants, heels, cropped tee, baseball hat, and red lips. Basically Rihanna.

Truth is all these styles and looks have been done before, but apparently we’re not done with them yet. Anyway, for an easier how-to approach on getting the sporty look think a combo involving one of these: sneakers, baseball hat, sports bra, mesh fabrics, leggings, track suits, gym clothes.

And now… my fave part, the street style inspo. sigh.
