Knitwear Styles For 2013 Winter! Comfort Meets Glam In Sweaters, Jumpers & Cardigans!
Sweaters, jumpers & cardigans are my new fashion crush for 2013 Winter, in as many designs, styles and colors as possible to suit every occasion and mood. The knitwear used to be a great hit back in the day, and lost a bit to silks & jerseys for a couple of years, but this season the cozy tops in warm fabrics are here to stay. And what better trend to have in winter than a wool chunky sweater styled fabulously with belts, skirts, jeans, trousers, shorts, or layered with jackets, coats and scarves? It’s finally a heaven of stylish coziness.
High street brands like Topshop, H&M, River Island, Forever 21 or ZARA have always had their share of wool clothing & classic sweaters for the cold season, as well as the streets – they’ve always been packed with women choosing comfort in a sweater in winter, over stylish tops that keep you cold. So awakening designers to this trend was but a question of time, and here we are in Autumn Winter 2012-2013 giving in to this sweater boom as if it’s the 1st time in fashion history that we’re wearing knits and wool. But… truth be told, that’s how the wheel turns in this industry: catwalk – retail – streets (even though it might be the other way around once in a while, we’re closing our eyes and letting this one slide). So what knits to wear this winter & how to style them? Although the general fashion trend for winter 2013 is ‘In With Wool & Knitwear’, the big trend holds within it tons of other trends to choose from such as: chunky sweaters, neon colored jumpers, stars & galaxy sweater prints, bugs or animal prints, loose cardigans, or fitted sweaters, long or waist length, thick or thin fabrics, belted, tucked in, dressed up, or down, rolled up sleeves, layered… and the list can go on. Baring one rule in mind – style & glam up your sweater and though you may opt for mixing prints of tops and bottoms, make sure you stay in the same color range. And as I always say… accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. Pile up on whatever you feel like it from bracelets to rings or necklaces for that glam, rock, rich look. Ah… I can’t believe there used to be a time knitwear was considered so anti-fashion & un-stylish! I mean the ways to glam up a knit/wool look are limitless and so much fun… while keeping warm and cozy.
The reason why the world of rich, famous and talented has finally given in to us people is of no importance, what matters though is that fashion designers finally chose to exploit our non-VIPs’ fashion needs and desires! Or maybe they simply understood that a laid back style and attitude once in a while can be quite a stylish nonchalant fashion statement and one doesn’t have to strut in too expensive uncomfortable clothes and labels to turn heads or be trendy. So the fashion Gods have given us a free pass to sweaters! Knitwear & wool ruled the runway in amazing designs and cuts, from your regular jumpers, pullovers, sweaters to wool dresses, scarves, skirts or vests. Alexander McQueen’s black & white wool dress paired with a fur black collar and black belt is a glam look to go for this season and Missoni’s soft color wool ensemble is for casual comfortable looks. Other designers to fabulously celebrate the wool and put the sweaters back in fashion are: Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Patmos or Pringle.
With the streets adoring this trend and exploring its exquisite various styles, with no limit or rule other than to be creative and feel comfy and the celebs donning the sweaters look even on the red carpet (kudos to Olivia Palermo for it. You go girl!) it seems that knitwear comes to our rescue in 2013 Winter. Sweaters are the new fashion must! No longer just comfy, but rather luxurious, glamorous, edgy, with jewellery or leather insertions, oversized or hugging your curves, chunky or thin, see-through or classic – they come in tens of trends and styles. The question is which one is yours?
