3 SHORTS To Wear This Summer — The Fashion Tag Blog

1, 2, 3 shorts… 1, 2, 3 shorts. Yeah, I guess SIA didn’t sing ‘1, 2, 3 shot’ for no reason, but imma pass on this one today (now how often do you get to hear that from me?!) and focus on SHORTS rather than shots. It’s only Tuesday anyway. Don’t you feel like shorts though go so well with shots?

Whatever. Actually just remembered she sang 1, 2, 3 drink. Tomato, tomato.

The thing about shorts is that: 1) they will always be in fashion, 2) they’re *the* summer staple, YET have managed to linger and squeeze their way all throughout the entire season if you ask me (hello shorts & tights. btw, is that still a thing?), and 3) ya kinda need perfecto legs for these ones don’t you. (no pressure, just personal insecurity I guess).

Staple as they are, the Q though remains: what are the hot shorts of 2016? What is still in and what is way way way out this year?

What it comes to 2016 summer trends it’s starting to be really frustrating that all is in and nothing is out of question or style anymore. Not even the fucking scrunchie, go figure. So SHORTS wise the same theory applies. Please feel free to hate me now for my lack of concrete ideas, but it’s just how Madame Fashion bloody is these days. It’s like there are no more trends per se, rather hot looks one minute and not-so-hot another.

However, SHORTS TRENDS for 2016 can be summed up in 3 massive styles that are a combo of retro, staples, and some trendy spice.

1. Underwear Shorts (super short shorts aka retro shorts),

2. Bermuda Shorts (still in, we gotta milk them more though), and

3. Denim Shorts (staple alert).

1.UNDERWEAR SHORTS. If these butt-cheek baring super short shorts with a dash of retro will stick in fashion more than necessary I might as well hand Fashion a gun and have her shoot me. Seriously?! I’ll stick to Bermuda shorts thank you very much. Unless of course two miracles happen: one – I wake up with a flawless bod, and two – if one comes true, I forever move to an exotic country where baring your butt-cheeks is perfectly okay anytime of day or night.

Who gives a shit about me though?

The underwear shorts are high waisted super short shorts, usually fitted, that look great in 2016 if worn casually with looser tops, and comfy even nerdy shoes, or more Carrie Bradshaw styles with stilettos and some fitted top. THIS very look needs a lot of swag though, so you don’t end up looking like 2000’s Christina Aguillera instead. Or just wear them at the beach, you know. That’s a safe bet.

But if you got the balls and butt cheeks don’t shy away from these. My tip for you is to wear them with flats and a very casual top.

2. BERMUDA SHORTS. They’re the nerd shorts, the geek version, the retro style, the man inspired fashion trend and I kinda like because it’s super versatile. Bermuda shorts can literally transform to any personal style or look, and can be worn from office to summer festivals for example. They can be the polished smart version that looks fab with a blazer or a button down, or they can be casual or boyfriend inspired.

They look amazing with heels, but for a more normcore take you can rock sneakers or Birkenstocks with them.

Their length makes it more appropriate for various occasions and less perfecto bods. Amen to that.

3. DENIM SHORTS. Aka my first love. I feel like anything said in regards to these is so redundant. They speak for themselves, they’re the best shorts ever, and if you thought Bermudas are versatile and fab, denim shorts are their God.

You can wear them pretty much anywhere depending on their style, but I’d not rock them for office for example if you work in a more formal environment.

The trouble with denim shorts is styling them so they look 2016, and not some late 2000s version of a preppy wannabe cool gal.

The best denim shorts are the less fitted versions and those inspired by classic denim jeans: high waist, hugs the body but is not painted on.

They look fab with flats, sneakers, chunky shoes, ugly shoes, ankle boots.
