If we could travel in time for the sake of fashion and rocking the chicest summer pants, I’m skeptical most of us would actually go for the 80s. Or even the 70s, as big as they are these days. Sure, those decades hold an enormous amount of other funs we’d probably devour in an instant, and jump our bubbly asses right into the time machine to take us to Woodstock or God knows what other cool place to mingle with history – but in this journey, fashion would come second, right?
Forty years later and we’re still stuck in Woody Allen fashion inspired scenes, when Diane Keaton was rocking wide legged pants, loose styles, high waist tailor trousers, or some boho chic gal is effortlessly drop dead gorgeous in flowy print oversized pants and chunky shoes.
THAT’S what’s IN these days when it comes to summer pants. The bigger the better. Long slim fluid willowy silhouettes, looseness, je m’en fiche and nonchalance, effortless sexiness, casualness, comfort mixed with 2015 swag, elegance, minimalism and the rise of personal style over trends.
What do we end up with then, summer pants wise? Tailor pants in a looser cut, jogger pants, harem styles, flowy print trousers, wide legged pants, culottes, side deep pockets, high waist – ALL in cuts and designs opposite to any skinny or remotely fitted trouser styles.
It all sounds great right? How could it not frankly? How could we not love the comfort and relaxed feel of such loose cut pants?
Confession mood-on: A sartorial season sans skinny jeans gives me more panic than pleasure. Like my pulse is up to 1000 right now. So my plan is this: keep the high waisted skinny jeans for casual weekends and fun friends get-togethers, AND opt for editorial-inspired pants for OFFICE.
Doh. I mean, rare are the cases when a pair of skinny jeans screams smart and professional office wear (uhhhh… never), so we might as well roll with the flow and listen to this know-it-all-bitch called fashion.
2015 Summer Pants in most styles are perfect for office wear, among other things. They also cover our bums, make us look decent, hide our flaws, work for weekends, for even beach-inspired outfits, for holiday looks and so on.
My favourites are definitely the wide legged white fluid pants that are on the rise these days and look fabulous with a tucked in button-down (office wear alert), or a plain tee for a more casual look.
Culottes are perfect for a polished summer outfit, they scream professional but relaxed style as well.
Harem, jogger, and wide legged print pants – are all great for Mondays to Sundays events, meetings, posh parties, boho chic encounters. It’s all a matter of how you decide to wear them.
In case we’re having one of those void of inspiration days (I know I am, for a few days now) let’s marvel at the street stylers and get some outfits inspo.
So there you have it. Whatever you do this summer, you gotta keep your pants on, and not just any pants, big flowy loose styles. What do you think?
