2016 Autumn Trend: The Pussy Bow Blouse

Weird name aside, truth is we’re all a bunch of pussies when it comes to fashion’s power over us. Trends, looks, funky-sometimes idiotic fads – we swallow and embrace them, and try on, and live by, and then toss them aside as if we’re all under a fucking spell. Fashion says jump and we ask how high. That’s pretty much how the story goes. Of course somewhere along the way we’re blessed with a few Eureka style moments, with a dash of sartorial courage, or brilliant ideas, but mostly we’re this lot of beautiful well dressed pussies drunk on the idea of fashion. Given all this, fashion’s decided that for 2016 Autumn she’s gonna wrap us all up in a beautiful bow slapped on a blouse. Hello 1980s pussy bow blouse comeback! Remember that time I had a epiphany on the 80s fashion return?! #justsaying

Like everything else these days the pussy bow blouse is hardly a new trend, in fact it was a very ‘IN’ and conservative look in the the 50’s, and then later on in the 80’s when it was the definition of career women. Alongside power suits and broad shoulders. And like with any trend that’s got an echo in the past, I’m looking at my grandma and mom for sartorial references. Both of them had the most amazing pussy bow blouses when I was a kid.

My grandma used to pair hers with those 50’s inspired deux pieces and I used to love watching her get dressed for work (she was a secretary) or for some special event.

My mom rocked the same look but with a more trendy take, and paired her pussy bow blouse with midi skirts, or a button down skirt with massive pockets. She rocked her natural dark curly hair and had block heels on. Perfection. Sometimes she’d wear a pussy bow blouse tucked in a midi high waisted pencil skirt and don a broad shoulder blazer on top, with huge heels on. And then sometimes she’d rock it with wide legged pants. My favourite pussy bow blouse used to be a red one that had such a long and massive strap that she used to tie in a perfect bouncy bow.

Now, few years later in 2016 – Gucci has shown us some of the most amazing pussy bow blouses ever. Never in a billion years did I think a pussy bow can look so modern and edgy and sometimes punk even. If, as a kid I was mesmerised by the bouncy bows, later on, in my teens and early 20s I hated them, and associated them with dated looks.

But here I am before you, looking more eager than ever to tie that pussy bow round my neck. There are literally millions of ways to wear one.

The pussy bow blouse in 2016. There’s a ton of style and designs from massive uber long bows to very tiny ones that are masculine and school-boy reminiscent. You can even play with the style and tie it in a bow of just leave it draping around you. Whether of not it’s part of a button down blouse or shirt is of no importance, the pussy bow can be attached to literally anything from a top to a dress, and it gives a very retro but rather sexy vibe to an outfit. It looks amazing paired with jeans and high waisted skirts or trousers, and it is a great look for autumn either worn alone or layered with a vest or a sweater.

The pussy bow blouse is a classic look, but the way 2016 reinvented it gives us plenty of room to have fun with slightly edgier or quirkier styles.
