pleated-skirts (3)The PLEATED SKIRT ladies. A very subtle trend we seem to take for granted, pleats are trying to break through in fashion for a couple of years. The funny thing though is that they were never out of fashion to begin with, yet they were never a major trend for the past 2 years. Like crop tops for example. Or the grunge thing.

Are they boring? Been there done that? Too prude? Too meh. News flash: so is anything and everything today, even in fashion, hence the rise of personal style and thinning of all sorts of must-do-boundaries. Perhaps it’s just me who thinks the pleats are a bit obscure in all this sea of trends, cause today, I heard a stylist praise them like shit (hence my idea for this post). pleated-skirtsSo… continuing my pleats mission today I give you pleats in all their glory, and why we kinda have to love them.

They’re super feminine, the way they dance in the wind, how fluid and playful they get. They look great for all occasions from office to evenings. Think 70s diva in a long fluid pleated dress with a high slit. sigh.

The staple quality of a pleated skirt is unquestionable, with the midi style being quite a trend this summer, especially in whites, nudes, pinks & pastels. Their elegance makes them office appropriate, but also easy to pair with more fun tops for relaxed weekends or fancy styles for evening. pleated-midi-skirt-street-style-2pleated-skirts (4)Short pleated skirts were a massive hit in the 90s, and they’re still holding on to their girly flirty cheeky vibe today, for those who wanna wear them. pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (2)street-style-pleats (3)Maxi pleated skirts are fabulous for daytime and evening as well, and can translate to all styles: grungy (boots and leather jacket), beachy boho chic (sandals, bustiers, beach hair), or classy for evening. The Pleated Skirtpleated-skirts (2)How to style pleated skirts: they look best with tank tops and graphic tees or even basic t-shirts to make it all about the skirt. Tucked in shirts, or knot-tied at the waist also look fantastic especially in denim. Bustiers & crop tops are my fave tops to pair with a pleated skirt. pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (6)When wearing a midi pleated skirt usually the shoes give the tone of the outfit: sneakers, thick soled oxfords, slip ons will make the outfit more trendy, slightly grungy chic. Chunky 70s style heels give it an edgy feminine touch, stilettos are uber hot, flats are simple and chic, boots are rock vibed and so on… you get the idea.

Let’s have a look at some street style pics for inspiration. :) pleated-skirts-midipleated-skirts-trendpleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (3)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (4)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (5)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (7)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (8)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014 (9)pleated-skirt-trend-summer-2014pleats-summer-trendstreet-style-pleats (2)street-style-pleats (4)street-style-pleatsSo what do you think? Should we let pleats dance around us or not? ;)

Pleated skirts are my absolute winners of coming back trends of this season! Particularly when designed as maxi skirts. Very feminine and girly, but sophisticated too. I like the fact they are suitable for a cocktail evening out with my girlfriends, though when combined with a nice blouse and blazer, they look perfectly professional to wear during my work days! Thanks for the inspiration in your pictures!

Maybe I cant be objective as I own a maxi pleated skirt, but i do prefer this style when its long and flowing as opposed to short…anyhoo, for me the pleated maxi is the gift in my wardrobe that keeps on giving, i can turn up the notch with a blazer (which i never do) or turn it down with my crops (which i always do)…
