With all the trends swirling around us like crazy there seems to be a general movement that makes it all happen. Style Clashing is the big thing now that embodies it all: from prints to chunky jewellery to lace, to evening skirts and heavy boots. If the ’80s were all about broad shoulders, bad make-up and big hair and the ’90s about grunge, the 2000s are about clashing styles. Wear your snickers with a feminine fancy dress, or your boots with an evening gown. Wear delicate pieces with heavy metal chunky jewellery.
In this new fashion revolution the Army Jacket takes a comfortable position and announces its huge comeback for Autumn 2012. The Army Jacket was quite a big hit in the ’90s (I remember fighting with my brother over an old/vintage army coat that must’ve belonged to our father) and then Olivia Palermo was rocking it on the streets of New York in fall 2010. Two years later… here we are hiding beneath the military coat on cold evenings or mornings. Oh, and trust me it does come in handy in a place like London. Sure mother always says never mix it with a business or feminine look, but I say it just makes it look stronger. Adds more power to it. It looks cool & rebel. The grungy washed out green, the spikes, the belts, the added colours… so many designs, cuts, patterns. You’ve gotta love it, right?
Balmain had a great collection packed with army jackets. Zara had a stunning army jacket in stores just last spring (still sorry I didn’t buy it). Celebrities rock the laid back sexy look and the streets are always the best place to spot this trend. One out of 5 people on the streets seems to be an ex-army soldier in washed out green jackets over T-shirts or business suits!
Here are a few looks of the Army Jacket I love so much…
