Trends in beauty and cosmetics never stop changing. Over the past few years, it’s felt like they’ve been changing more and more frequently and more dramatically. Every day we see photos on social media that can instantly change the way we feel about our makeup. This exposure from all over the world has made a lot of influences on the products we buy and how we think about beauty. If you don’t keep up, you can miss out on some big changes and quickly become out of date. With such constant change, it can seem like only the seriously committed can follow along with everything. Of course, many of the more dramatic trends get the most attention, so many think they have to buy expensive products and get procedures like a breast augmentation done.  However, some changes can be more minor tweaks and ones that can be better for you and your skin in the long run.

Clean products

A decade ago, many people weren’t that concerned about what ingredients were being used in cosmetics and skincare. Unless you had a known allergy to something, chances are you probably didn’t look very far into it. Now, tons of brands are competing with one another to show off healthier and more environmentally friendly ingredients. Many people make their purchasing decisions based solely on the ingredients. People don’t want overly processed products with a long list of ingredients. Many beauty products are marked that they’re certified organic, all-natural, cruelty-free, and vegan. More people are also beginning to take into consideration the amount of plastic used in their packaging.

Instagrammable products

Sure, a beauty product’s most important job is to make you look good. This is what drives you to buy it, but something that’s gained importance is how the product itself looks. If you’re torn between two similar products, doesn’t it make more sense to pick the one that will look nicer displayed in your dresser or a cabinet? If you find out a bought a product through social media, you’ll be more inclined to find out more if the package design stands out. Trendy products that have a large following can make you want to post photos of it on your own to show it off. These products are more attention-grabbing, so there’s becoming more of a focus in creating packaging that people want to have, sometimes the actual product doesn’t matter as much.

Minimal makeup

A few years ago, you wanted everyone to see that you were wearing makeup. From contouring, glitter, and dark colors, there’s wasn’t much subtlety. There’s been a recent change that is making people want to look more natural. Rather than covering up in a lot of makeup, people are using less. Sometimes it’s not always about actually using less makeup, but using makeup that makes it look like you are. A more minimalistic approach hides the fact that you’re wearing anything at all and makes it seem like this is how you just naturally look. Showing off your natural features can be much more of a brag than being able to cover them up.

Better education about skincare

The internet and social media have done a great deal to change the way we think about cosmetics in a short amount of time. People have more information than ever before about what they’re putting on their face. This has changed the way many people shop for cosmetics and leads them to do more research before they buy anything. More informed consumers can make dramatic changes in the products they buy. They also have far more access to different products. You’re no longer limited to only the products you can find at local drugstores and makeup shops. We can easily find out what products are the favorites in other countries and buy them for ourselves.

Professional cosmetic treatments

Makeup and skincare can only give you a certain degree of results. Getting cosmetic procedures or plastic surgery done used to be somewhat taboo to talk about. Having work done by a professional is something more people are open to discussing. This can give you the dramatic and sometimes permanent results that otherwise would be unattainable. An increase in quick, non-surgical procedures could be playing a role in more people getting professional help. Some common procedures you can have done include dermal fillers, chemical peels, and even non-surgical nose jobs. Procedures like this can be done within an hour and don’t require you to take any time out of your day to recover.

If you’ve ever felt both ecstatic and miserable at the same time, about the same thing – relax. You are not insane. Chances are you’re a hardcore sartorial stepping into the cold gloomy season, hence you’re sad when faced with the horrendous cold and gloomy weather, BUT happy to drown into amazing outfits and layers of beautiful clothes.

Should we cut off the fucking drama? It’s only seasons changing after all. Yes, rain is upon us, and so is the cold, and low temperatures, the bloody wind, and our sad goodbyes to pretty toes in pretty sandals. But with this apparent nightmare we welcome a beautiful sartorial heaven made up of coats, and boots, sweaters, and hats, and scarves. And while I can’t really stand the latter, I adore KNITS.

The good news is you’ve already got them: knitted sweaters, cardigans, tops, dresses. The second good news is knits of all sorts are reigning in 2016-2017 fall. In fact, this FW we’ve seen plenty of collections which stretch our love for knits all the way into early spring next year. If that ain’t good news I don’t know what is?

Long gone are the days when knits were just another word for dusted granny style. Today knits range from the hobo granny looks, to posh, polished, minimal, or more over-the-top styles, and if you think knits are just another word for only sweaters – you better think twice.

2016 autumn welcomes knits in everything you can imagine from skirts, to trousers, to long-coats aka cardigans.

knits

So let’s this the best knit fashion pieces to wear this season:

1.SWEATERS. By far the best thing about fall. They keep us warm, and look amazing. Plus there’s like a billion styles to choose from: statement, logo, coloured, minimal, nude, black, classic, chunky, fuzzy, off-the-shoulders, turtlenecks – all is in and it’s a bloody heaven.

I love sweaters worn as jackets, with no jacket over them, just a simple pair of trousers, skirts, or jeans, and a great bag and pair of shoes to complete the look.

2. SWEATER DRESSES. I will forever be grateful to fashion for this amazing piece. It’s so versatlile and it looks so incredibly great that I think it’s fall’s greatest staple. Sweater dresses come in so many styles so you can pick one for each and every occasion in your life: office, casual, winter styles, even more formal events.

The key is the knit and the design: mini, maxi, long, short, slouchy, fitted, low cut, turtleneck.

Last year it was all about the midi fitted nude style knitted dresses, but this year more casual, loose and slouchy pieces are taking over. A more relaxed silhouette is in – the long oversized sweater dress, which makes this piece even more versatile as it looks great with sneakers, but insanely sophisticated when paired with heels, especially over-the-knee-boots.

3. CARDIGANS. Forget jackets and coats for a bit and focus on the coziness of a cardigan. I gotta repeat this to myself so many times until I actually do it. Cardigans are the best piece to layer, so if that’s your thing do cardigans.

That is not my thing, not my forte anyway, but I love them cause they’re a great transitional piece when we can’t yet say goodbye to summer tops, so we just throw a cardigan on top of that cami par example and it will look so chic and effortless it’s amazing.

It is a great piece for casual styles, and a great item to break a posh outfit and clash the knit and its effortlessness with more sophisticated fabrics.

4. KNITTED SKIRTS. Very interesante, don’t you think? There isn’t like a knitted skirt trend out there, but knitted pencil skirts should be more popular. Seriously. I mean, we’ve got the two-piece knits…

Knitted skirts look amazing with a t-shirt and a leather jacket on top, it’s the definition of relaxed with a bit of effort.

5. KNITTED PANTS. Hey, grandma called, she wants her trousers back! Uhm no. But I hear you. It was last season or so that I came across a pair of uber long and very wide-legged knitted pants in some shop, and I was a bit sartorially confused tbh. Now I regret not having bought them, but my fashion scepticism laid exactly in my lack of style imagination right then and there

Where would I wear them, like in the house? I thought.

Now… I’ve got so many outfit ideas I just need a pair of knit pants. Talk about timing.

They’re sort of like the more sophisticated but really relaxed version of sweatpants. More grown-up if you will.

And they do look amazing with stilettos and a sweater.

6. KNITTED TWO-PIECES. It’s like wearing a sweater dress and a sweater sweater, only it’s a suit. So it holds the power to infinite outfits and massive versatility.

I might be a rookie in cardigans but I know a few things about two-piece knits. This is how I wore mine.

If you think I’m sartorially deranged, you’re right. It was just yesterday that I revealed a bit of trend-resentment, and here I am today professing my love for a new trend in town: the NUDE SNEAKERS. Yaaasss!

Beige is a massive obsession this year, from makeup, to nails, to those bodycon midi dresses, to stilettos, bags, coffee, sheets we sleep in, chairs we sit in, leggings, and everything you can possibly imagine. So it was quite easy for Madame Le Fashion to put 2 and 2 together and give us the shoes that ain’t going nowhere – SNEAKERS – and the colour we’re literally draping ourselves in -NUDE.

Must be our obsession with bday suits as well, huh?

Whatever.

nude-sneakers

How to wear nude sneakers?

Contrary to the word implying workout I think the nude sneakers look is more a street style kinda trend, rather than a fad you can apply to your gym outfit. Sure you can wear them to spin class or leg day, but again – despite their nude quality (which usually makes them versatile) they don’t really look at their best except when paired with white/nude/light/ shades.

Weird isn’t it?

But if you can pull off the nude gym outfit do it, by all means. God knows we all strive for perfect health in a perfect naked body, and since no-clothes is still a social no-no (to my perfectly sculpted body’s despair #smellthesarcasm) a nude gym outfit might just be the next best thing.

Back to street style, and reality right now. You can wear nude sneakers with an all nude outfit like: a skirt and cropped sweater, beige turtleneck, nude leggings, two-piece dresses, a shade of taupe casual dress. Throw a cream trench or coat over, rock soft golden details (a watch, a necklace, nude nails, a baseball hat, lipstick) and you will look like you literally fell into a delicious cappuccino and are ready to rule the world, in the softest and most clean luxe shoes ever – the nude sneakers.

Nude sneakers also look great for a weekend casual style: cropped tee, leather jacket, white jeans, or grey sweatpants.

However, I don’t really see them blending too well with an all-black outfit for example, or coloured looks. I just think nude sneakers are the perfect pull-together detail for pastels, light shades, whites, and nudes.

They’re sort of the casual luxe accessory to complete an rich soft outfit, that’s casual as well but with a touch of sophistication.

I love them, and will buy a pair Goddammit, even if I think they’ll never turn into a staple and are more a fad thing.

I just wanna look like I fell into a rich delicious cappuccino, you know.

I am as amazed as you are by my urge to write this post, trust me. Considering we live in the time of all is in and whatever you want to wear is okay this post sounds a bit off, doesn’t it? Actually I think not. I have indeed slightly feared going into this topic, cause seriously what the fuck do I know, and except for a few trends out there, most of my 13 infamous list is pretty subjective. Shockingly.

But some looks aka trends I really think have been did & done and we gotta move on. I know, I know it’s such a big issue (moving on) in life in general, but in fashion it’ll all comeback.

Frankly I ain’t ready myself to let go of some of these trends, but killing them is also a sartorial and creative challenge. OR, in some cases they could still be stretched for a longer time (a year maybe?) with a slight (or not so slight) nip and tuck.

Let’s do this people. And remember we’ve all done them, nobody is absolved of tacky trends at least once in their lives. Not if you love fashion, and have happened to live in the easrly 2000s. It does come with the fun of it. However this post is focused more on recent trends. Which is not at all a better thing.

1. Waterfall cardigans. I’ve had enough of these. That waterfall draping I’m not a massive fan of at all, not in cardigans.

I’m more okay with it in light trench coats for example in nude colours.

With waterfall cardigans I feel we’ve done the female equivalent of the lumber-sexual for way way way too long. Read the girl in Kim Kardashian wavy locks aka 2010 wearing a waterfall cardigan with skinny jeans and ankle boots. Enough is enough. Can’t let go? Try.

Or just keep it for winter mountain trips.

waterfall waterfall-cardigan

2. Shredded jeans. For the love of God some types of shredded jeans have got to stop popping up in shops. Others, on the other hand are fabulous still, but there’s a very tricky line here.

For shredded skinny jeans opt for just knee cuts, or slightly above the knee. Don’t overdue with rips & shreds. It’ll look cheap.

In looser jeans, to avoid the cheap look keep the shreds quantity wise to a minimum. So don’t do 1,547,736 rips on one leg and then 2,678,097 on the other. Instead if you want to go for the ripped jean look – do the massive one or two rips in baggy jeans.

On all occasions you gotta keep the white denim fabric from the rips to a minimum. Stick to clean ripped jeans.

ripped-jeans shredded-jeans shreded-jeans

3. The fucking beard. Pardon the ‘fucking’ in there but I, and the entire world, is over it. Somebody’s gotta send the memo to these kids, or men, who are still milking the beard trend for ego-bootsing purposes. If you are one of these males, OR you wear a beard cause it’s trendy – STOP.

Sure, most men look better covered up in facial hair for obvious reasons, but dang that chiseled face and jawline! If you got it flaunt it boy!

beard-trend clean-shaved-faces clean-shaved no-beard-trend

4. Shrunken jackets. Guilty guilty guilty and totally can’t stand them now. Shrunken jackets are nothing more than normal waist length fitted jackets: leather, bomber, even blazers. They’re over. Done. Oversized is in and it does look better, or maybe it’s just a matter of diversity you know.

shrunken-jackets

5. Fedora hats. God help me if I see one more hat. Actually they keep popping up, and just the other day I saw a few in a shop. The trend is just that – too trendy. It’s over. If it’s not part of a person’s personal style prior to this hat mania that’s taken over the shops for the past4 years, then you gotta let go of the too covered up way too trendy look: hat, scarf, glasses, boots, waterfall cardigan. Bye.

hats

6. Wedges. Never liked them. It’s like a sick shoe combo that couldn’t make up its mind between being a stiletto, a flat, or a platform, so it thought ‘hmmm, why don’t I be all three?’ Uhm, no.

Especially the sneaker wedges. Nooooo. They’ve died for sometime but in case you never found out, you just did. Don’t tell nobody. I won’t either.

If you wanna do wedge shoes, do them in summer. A la Dolce and Gabbana style.

wedges

7. Men in big bold graphic t-shirts. What are you 5? Move on. Wear a simple one colour tee, or if you love logos do a nice logo tee. Stop with the ‘clever tee texts’ written on hallmark borderline desktop photos imprinted on a tee. NO. If you are 30 (even less TBH) don’t wear them anymore, they’re tacky and make you look like a 19 year old skater boy.

text-tees

8. The uber polished sock bun. I am now screaming on the inside. It was trendy in its time,   it had its moment –  stuck-up-bitch tight polished look, we respect it for it, but it’s gone now!!! I’ll refrain from anything else here.

It’s just too harsh, at least for daytime.

sock-bun

9. Peplum. Usually if you had a sock bun you most likely had a peplum too, in red most likely, a statement beaded necklace, and those big-fly (the insect) sunglasses. You know the look preppy sexy secretary on a trend roll. Yes we’re all fucking guilty of it, but hopefully not anymore.

Peplum is one motherfucker to be honest. It’s a very weird trend trick: emphasises the waist, it’s retro feminine… I liked it, but never really like loved it. So I can’t say I’m crying right now.

peplum

10. Heavy contouring. Now I am crying. Well, sobbing at least. I LOVE makeup although I’ve never done contouring per se (too much of a hassle for me, combined with the fear of looking like The Mask), I have applied foundation, bronzer, blush, a bit of an illuminator, and powder usually in the evening. The point is – the queen of contouring Kim Kardashian has stopped with the harsh lines and embraced more of a dewy soft bronzed and natural look and glow. And that means more natural styles are in, and perhaps the dramatic eyes and lips and contour is better left for special occasions.

I do LOVE a perfect full on makeup look though.

Slowly letting on. sobbing.

no-contouring-trend contouring

11. Slip ons. That’s the rumour in Fashion Town these days, and frankly I couldn’t care less. For some reason I never bought a pair, and instead preferred sneakers. Ha!

They look great though,  but have that trendy quality to them that you know will make them hot one season and not so hot the next.

slip-ons

12. The fly but not so fly sunglasses. They used to be the classic go to shades, but now they’re pretty passé, and make you look like a fly.

Trade the flies for eye cat sunglasses or wayfarers.

fly

13. Flat bill baseball hats. Sorry. And anyway most people look better with curved bill hats, but to each their own.

Let’s talk about this in the Facebook comments:

TRENDS – which ones can you say bye to, and which ones you can’t yet?

This is why I LOVE what I do. Milan Fashion Week 2017 Spring/Summer was beyond amazing, pure fashion, art, glamour, and edginess. Yes I tend to bitch and whine a little bit around FW, but truth is there’s this incredible pleasure in watching all the collections and immersing yourself into the sartorial world of next season while fashion literally unfolds in front of you and you pick up new trends, looks, & inspiration for current and future seasons.

Sure, some designers stuck to their legacy and what we always expect of them – like Armani par example (greys & blues, black tones, understated glamour, a lot of shorts, and more casual cut of the blazer) – but others were a magnificent surprise, like Versace. Donatella outdid herself with the SS2017 collection, and I truly feel that ALL designers at Milan FW were more courageous and uninhibited in expressing what Spring 2017 will be all about in terms of fashion and the times we live in.

Moschino did a collection that leaves you in awe and craving for some of the clothes, but also gets you thinking about how it all changed with social media. Life sized paper doll clothes invaded the runway and we were witnessing one of his best collections that combine today’s social media phenomenon if you will, with the Barbie look that Moschino is famous for. I loved it, and loved the intentional kitsch and the explosion of ‘too much’.

When NYFW started I predicted a back to 80s and 40s phenomenon with a bit sports/athleisure going on. And NYFW 2017 gave us that, but I must say not as much as I’d have expected, at least in terms of 80s fashion comeback.

Well… grab your coffee or drink or whatever and sit back for Milan FW. It not only gave us the reinvented 80s fashion with a beautiful melange of 1940s style, but it did so in the most clean, yet glamorous and explicit way possible.

Bottega Veneta was probably one of my favourite collections with what I thought was the best 1940’s transition to the 1980s. The women’s clothes started off as a very post WWII austere yet glam and feminine style and design, with masculine shoes, and socks, but cinged waists and very sexy fabrics, sombre classic colours, with a bit of yellow or brick brown outfits. Menswear is fantastic with the representation of how men will dress come 2017 spring. Those 40s high waist trousers, with casual tees and jackets slowly transitioned to the loose and slouchy 80s suits, that I never really cared much for in menswear but got to love with this collection. They were a great opening for women’s 80s inspired jumpsuits and slightly bouffant pants and broader shoulders tops and jackets. Absolutely gorgeous.

I also really liked Jil Sander, though I’m usually not a massive fan. I like it but I was never too into their collection. This season I actually loved their clean lines, and cuts and brilliant muted solids and powerful colours. Can I have any of those broad shoulders trench coats? sigh.

And then there was Prada. She’s one of the best and so was this collection which I thought was very effortless. Nothing was shocking but it was all pure pleasure to watch. Sporty inspired prints and tops mixed with chunky sporty shoes stuck into that athletic style we’re all still milking, and then there were the trench coats and retro moto jackets in ice-cream sporty colours, and of course the ostrich feathers adorning hems and sleeves.

Versace was brilliant, and I loved how she furthered herself a little bit from her usual glam inspired looks to more complicated pieces and gave us her own version of athletic wear. The collection was one of the best with pieces that were very powerful and body-unflattering-cut to more fitted pieces that stayed true to Donatella Versace’s hot woman. Hello green dress. I loved the skirts’ cut, amazing slits that made them slung sexy to the hips, brilliant trench coats and dark colours. The purple-green combo was insane.

Dsquared and Cavalli gave us what they’ve trained our eyes for so far: collections that stayed true to their brand. Cavalli was packed with 70s inspo, prints, and fluid silhouettes and Dsquared I swear had the best jackets and adornments.

Speaking of adornments and intricate absolutely exquisite embellishments – Dolce & Gabbana – shut the front door. They are one of my fave, no secret there, and like the above designers, they too gave us what we expected. With them we know to expect plenty of glamour and opulence but with that constantly traditional reinvented Sicilian legacy. There is also this type of femininity that you can only get with a Dolce and Gabbana collection, and this pure beauty and effortlessness that makes you feel Italian even though you’re not. Dolce vita vibes and gelato, and pastas, and pizzas and big jewellery mixed with traditional items. Oh and don’t get me started on the head pieces and earrings.

And then there was the world over at Gucci. Still making history. “You know, when you are in love, in a nightclub, but you are not in the right place, the person is not there?” said Alessando Michele. Think Renaissance meets 70s in a borderline kitsch filmset with plush pink carpets all over, strange outfits that you can’t help but love, horrendous beautiful humongous shoes, a doll-like scenario in which costumes take front seat and you kinda wanna stay in that film set and wear everything and never comeback to a reality of conformity in fashion, opulence, or glamour, depending on your cup of tea.

A wonderful surprise was Marco De Vincenzo‘s collection. I thought it was one of the most powerful and feminine with a dash of sexy collections in Milan. Strong beauty looks, bold lips, mixed with the best blues and pinks in the world and the best flirty and fluid cuts done in a very masculine way. LOVED it.

Maxmara had 80s written all over it. Amen to that. It was like watching Kim Basinger back in the day. Tall like a glass of champagne, all covered up in 80s jumpsuits and looking hot as hell. That orange skinny jumpsuit was beyond.

Missoni, Stella Jean & Fendi were beautiful collections to watch. Those kinds that you just wanna run away with all their clothes and live happily ever after. Stella Jean’s was football inspired and if I could live in those T-shirts I would. And Missoni… who knew knits could be whatever the hell you want them to be. Stunning.

I made a reference to champagne in there somewhere. Now it’s all I can think about and it’s only noon on a freaking Wednesday.

As much of a sartorial lover I may be, the way I see it one thing will forever remain unchanged: there are three types of weekends.

1) The stay in bed-pyjama weekend, where you’re lucky if you have the energy to shower. This is usually accompanied by tons of pizza, a state of fuck off mood, and a hangover. You do not, ever, on such days give a shit about what you wear. But in case you do, here’s a post on chic loungewear so you can have a posh headache and all.

2) The stay in bed-birthday-suit weekend. At this point you’re fucking more than fashion. If y’all need explaining you’re far too innocent or young for this. Please click away.

3) The busy weekend where you decide to go shopping, go to the farmer’s market, hang out for lunch or brunch with friends, go the gym, or just get out of the house for whatever reason. THIS post is for this type of weekend. Ta-daaaa.

weekend-style sporty-weekend-looks weekend-sneakers-looks

Basically there is no super power to a great weekend look. It’s all a combo of casual, comfy, with a dash of chic, sophisticated, glam, or edgy (depending on personal style or mood), and breaking those clothes or outfits you can’t wear to work.

Here we go.

1. Flat shoes. Or at least comfortable ones. Anything from boots to sneakers and even sandals if you’re having a warm fall. But sneakers are still the #1 shoe of 2016, and they are comfy and work well with anything.

2. Denim. Most workplaces have a dressing code and denim is usually off the list, so in case this is you – use the weekend to rock any denim piece from jeans to jackets, to shorts, skirts and so on.

The best part about summer ending and us slowly moving into fall is the amount of outfits we can play with. YAS. Layers, jackets, cardigans, hats, scarves.

Jeans look fab for weekend paired with sneakers and anything on top. A mini denim skirt is pure perfection paired with a boyfriend t-shirt and white sneakers. And oversized light washed denim jackets look amazing with an all black casual outfit.

3. Casual skirts & dresses. Whatever’s too short, tight, un-professional for office is great for the weekend. I LOVE knitted dresses with sneakers, or shirt dresses with brown ankle boots, or suede mini skirts paired with light trench coats and cowboy boots. Sigh.

4. Boyfriend inspired. Long live oversized clothes: boyfriend t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, slouchy trousers, big bad jackets. Fab! Wear your hair in a cute ponytail fora touch of girly, or wear bold lips, have fun with nail art, some bling.

5. Sporty and athleisure. Can we get a standing ovation? Thank you. THIS is of course my fave weekend look that I’ve covered before here and here. It’s perfect for the weekend whether or not you are going to the gym. If you are, it makes more sense why you’re wearing cool leggings and a cropped sports bra underneath some oversized jacket, but if not… who cares? I mean, work it.

6. Casual tops. If your work place requires a tucked in button down you’ll probably burn these tops over the weekend and go for anything from boyfriend sweatshirts, to cropped tops and slouchy sweaters, and bare back blouses, and see throughs, and hoodies, and sequins and what not.

7. Casual HOT looks. Again… not office appropriate? Break it in the weekend. Hello bodysuits and miniskirts or jeans or skinnies, all paired with sneakers. Hello low cut tops, and short shorts. Hello fitted sexy clothes that look fab with oversized bomber jackets and  sneakers.

8. Long cardigans. I love these on people, but I hate them on myself. Everybody’s got one these days and it looks great, it adds comfort and coziness to a look, it’s a great cover up piece for bare legs in autumn, or for layering, or just a more fall-ish version of an outwear. Texture wise it’s pure sophistication.

9. Baseball hats. STOP. Those who know me know I hate hats. Like I cannot stand hats (panama, fedora, or floppy hats). Massive no for me. Baseball hats – now that’s a different story. I adore them paired with just about anything and I think they are the perfect accessory and pull-together-look-gimmick for the weekend. Bad hair day? Chilly days? A bit of rain? Wear a baseball hat.

When you hit a certain age the special occasion term gets some new meaning, and you tend to cater more to the lazy Sunday in front of the TV, or binge watching on a Saturday rather than having shots on a Friday.

Just kidding.

Actually yes and no. It tends to fluctuate you know. But since the term special occasion has yet to change its general meaning, we are stuck in a somewhat labeled from of dressing, which of course excludes pyjamas or birthday suits. So depending on what your agenda has in store for you on weekend evening – special occasion wise – you will probably have to consider outfits for either weddings, club/dancing night, red-carpet inspired events, cocktails, dancing dinners, dates, and so on.

What to wear on such special occasions? Anything that floats your boat really, cause as long as you wear a pair of sexy heels I’m guessing you can make a paper bag look hot as hell. So then anything from a silky sexy jumpsuit to even a power suit tailred for evening could look bomb.

Today though I am sharing with you special dresses for special occasions courtesy of Dress Shop.

It’s great that we tend to go more for sophisticated looks, and step out of our comfort zones on a general sartorial basis, but when it comes down to picking a look for a special occasion we usually go for dresses.

Red carpet inspired event. For such cocktail red-carpet-ish situations I LOVE white long dresses. Something about them for me is the definition of luxe and elegance. Black long classic dresses or even red ones look amazing too. Keep the rest clean and minimal: hair, makeup, bling, go for simple stiletto shoes and let the dress speak for itself.

Night out in town: date night, dinner, dancing, clubbing. You gotta nail 2 scenarios here: looking hot and feeling comfortable. Hello short dresses. You can have fun with sequins, and see-throug, and lace, and all sorts of sexy details. Keep the rest simple but sophisticated: leave your hair down or opt for a ponytail, go for more funky shoes, a cool clutch, and a great jacket on top. It’s perfect.

Get the look with my fave ones from Dress Shop.

Special dinner events. Read those where long gowns are a no-no, and short ones are a faux pas. Hello midi dresses, that speak flormal but look very luxe and elegant.

A Solid Bomber Jacket

Bomber jackets have been around for years, but it seems like this year they’ve exploded into popularity. What we love about these jackets is their versatility. As they are generally fitted and tailored to the shoulder and body, they can easily be dressed up, but their street style quality can’t be denied—the perfect balance of refinement and a casual look that makes it a viable outfit option for any event.

Some Designer Socks

Every fashion-friendly guy probably has an affinity for designer socks that peek out whenever his pants happen to ride up. We know what you’re thinking—socks might seem like an uninspired anniversary gift, but hear us out. You can’t go wrong with VKNagrani, a luxury clothing store for men that offers the original “designer dress sock”.

Some Professional Help

If you want to find a gift that keeps on giving, sign the guy in question up for his very own fashion box. You’ve likely heard or received some sort of subscription box in recent years, whether it be a makeup delivery, recipe box, or even book order. It was only a matter of time before the fashion industry jumped on the subscription model. Instead of heading out and grabbing him a singular outfit, sign him up for something like Trunk Club. This awesome system will assign your guy to a specific personal stylist, and take down all of his likes and dislikes—at least when it comes to fashion. He’ll receive a box each month with varied pieces, and he can send back whatever he doesn’t like. Heads up: they offer stylists for women, too, so don’t be surprised if you wind up signing yourself up for this awesome service.

You know that ‘Seinfeld’ episode when Jerry was terrified he had to wear the puffy shirt live on tv. Cause it was ridiculous. Little did he, or us, knew the day would come when such style shirts would not only be acceptable but coveted.

2016 Spring/Summer is all about the massive huge sleeves. Whether they’re mutton, pirate inspired, ruffled, long, oversized, big, massive and all the related synonyms your mind can grasp  – they’re in.

I think it all kinda goes with our daily drama. I mean they perfectly fit into my routine, when I get all dramatic and talk with my hands, those sleeves – touching the ground, chaotically following my line of thought (I mean hands), beautifully complimented by bracelets or rings and the phone that’s always in my hand – they mean something. I really think we’re onto something here.

Can we get a bow-down for the fashion gurus & Jerry Seinfeld?

Trend wise big sleeves exist for:  1) we got so many aces up our sleeves it was time we dressed to fit the situation. Plus our egos are sky high so we kinda need to stay in the dramatic-massive angle of fashion. And 2) truth is, there’s only so many ways we can wear a shirt, or a blouse, or a top.

So once designers dipped a little bit into the past (slightly Victorian inspired with a dash of 70s sleeves) our pool of #OOTD got bigger. Literally.

Big sleeves are a statement. Of style. Of drama. Of coolness. Of effortlessness. Pick your shtick and roll with it.

2016-trend-big-sleeves-1 2016-trend-big-sleeves-5 2016-trend-big-sleeves-2

How to wear BIG SLEEVES? Hard as it may sound, you wear them like normal sleeves, the difference is – cause they’re a statement you can keep them a sole item and wear a simple outfit with them , or have fun and mix them with funky items and rock a sophisticated outfit.

Big sleeves come in: shirts, off the shoulders tops, or dresses.

For a simple, minimal-with-a-twist look you can wear a shirt with massive sleeves and a pair of office trousers or a skirt. It’s business with a dash of chicness to it. LOVE this.

2016-trend-big-sleeves-6

For a cooler more sophisticated style opt for those white ruffled sleeve tops paired with a classic pair of denims. It’s so effortless and simple it screams perfect style.

spring-trend-big-sleeves

For a more classic grown-up professional but fun look wear big sleeve dresses that make you look like an editor from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’.

Well this ain’t no ‘discovering plutonium by accident’ situation, but it’s a design gimmick that’s really a breath of fresh air, and it came right when I thought we’ve pretty much done it all and seen it all. And I was just about to go on another rant on how much we need a bloody fashion revolution. It’s not like the big sleeves save the day, but they sure give us more food for style and room for some fun outfit-venturing.

If you’re loving this look (I know I am) you can shop my fave big sleeve picks below, from designer to retail.

Have a great rest-of-the-week my loves.
