2009_10_30_macarons_ladureeWhatever happened to good old Spring & Easter warm weather? Or did I just fall into a time capsule and got stuck in an endless Christmas? Which I wouldn’t mind were it not for the horrible cold weather. I mean snow… really? In Spring? Can barely stand it in winter hence my frustration and hard time coping with the present forecast. Ah well… a look at the bright side. Oh wait… there is no such thing. Joking.

Crappy weather aside, Easter is coming and with it a tiny bit of holiday, but just enough (hardly ever) for us to stuff ourselves with CUPCAKES & MACARONS. Anyone? And chocolate of course, but who needs it when you’ve got the best excuse to splurge on all the macarons in the world, right? Drinks are next (think absolutely delicious hangover worthy cocktails and wines) and food round the clock.

My favorite thing to do on an Easter holiday: brunch with the girls, lunch with family, dinner and drinks out. Loads of walks in the park, shopping and making a day out of all the free days. This of course requires a certain fashion attire. Well actually not really (unless you’ve got to go to a super special event or venue for the Sunday Easter) but I do feel that when spending a day out, never knowing if you’ll make it home before dinner to change into something more going out worthy, it’s best to be dressed well, in layers, with bits of posh accessories just in case you’ll be going out partying right after brunch. And with this blizzard blessing us right in Spring best style is definitely warm comfy style: beanies, scarves, hats, caps, and lost of layers.

Winter Fashion for Easter Holiday

Yes pastels in winter. What am I saying? It’s Spring so go on then: white coats, floral print trousers, pink sweaters, ice-cream colored tops, sweet powdered nails – effortlessly girly & feminine looks. Personally I’m sticking to ankle boots, coat, fake fur scarf and just jazz it up with accessories and perhaps statement trousers. Leather never lets me down.

If you’ve been channeling Twiggy or Jane Birkin for the past years well kudos to you for forecasting the fashion cycle (and for those of you  looking for originality you’d better spice it up if you wanna stand out from the crowd) as 2013 Spring makes a huge swing right into 60s fashion. If Marc Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton collection in Paris last season wasn’t a big 60s MOD revival warning I don’t know what was.

With a green pass for all the razzmatazz of the youth culture back in the day, I really don’t know what to expect street style & retail wise today. I mean fashion from A to Z has pretty much been done, it’s just us the young spirits of today that find everything before the 80s so fresh. I just wish we came up with something different ourselves instead of always going back to the comfortable roots. Are we that bored or ignorant? Or has everything been done in terms of fashion? Twiggy

1960s in today’s fashion…

60s Fashion back in the day…
60s-mod-styleA dip into the 1960’s – Youth Revolution, Sex Freedom, Street Styles. How it all started…

60s-fashion (3)60s-fashion60s-fashion-lifestyle60s-fashion-trendHonestly I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one, I’ve always said fashion-music-culture are all linked, so we not only lack a movement in the former but in all. Clearly our thirst for something new is there. Might be sound asleep but hey. Thank God we’ve got the past to keep us on our toes, right? The swinging 60s were the Golden Age of freedoms, with so much happening in music, politics, society, morals – that it was bound to transpose in fashion.

Young people refused to be/look/act/think as their parents did. The past was constricting, booed, boring, wrong, not real. So all those 60s trademarks had quite a solid reason behind: short A-line dresses, plastic jewellery, kitten heels, bold geometric & psychedelic prints, bright colors, mini skirts. This was the time when the street fashion was invading the catwalk and when Brigitte Bardot went down in history for refusing (if not laughing in the face of) Coco Chanel, who offered to dress the young generation’s idol in elegant free of charge clothes, which Bardot dismissed saying ‘‘couture is for grannies” and stuck to her unconventional fashion boutique clothes.  brigitte-bardot-60s-fashionCould today’s designers long for a stronger backbone in our generation or are they just constantly nostalgic for the Golden Ages that had life, turmoil, purpose, anarchy & revolution in them, with all of it being reflected in fashion? Until that one clears up for me we’ve got today’s Fashion Trends to plunge into and learn a few things of the past while wearing them.

According to Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton or Michael Kors2013 Spring is a return to all the 60s trademarks:

  • mini skirts, A-line dresses,
  • kitten heels,
  • pointed toes,
  • checkerboard & stripes prints,
  • pops of bright colors,
  • monochromatic outfits

What is a different take on the 60s though, is the lack in flower prints for instance. 2013 Spring is a revival of black & white, stripes, checks and geometric prints. The cuts are simple, strong structured with quite some fun and opulent details: big earrings (think Dolce & Gabanna not 60’s plastic jewellery per se), boxy tiny bags (think those your grandma used to have) funky sun-glasses ( big 70s kind or cat-eye shades).

60s-fashion-spring-201360s-inspired-fashion-look60s-mini-dress60s-styles-spring-2013-trend2013-spring-trends-60s-styleskitten-heels-street-style60s-inspired-bagsThe streets have yet to make a 60s statement with all these, I mean we’re still stuck in winter at the end of March so I suppose grunge has still got a reason for sticking around. I haven’t seen nor found that many 1960’s screaming looks or outfits, but the idea behind a trend is to reinvent it, to adapt it, mix and match it, therefore who needs a 60s head-to-toe look when some random well chose items can get the same (or better) result. Once the sun settles in we’re bound to witness mini skirts, checks, stripes, tiny heels & cat-eyeglasses. Right?

To be honest with you 60s Trend is so offering in terms of clothes, looks, styles that I really think it should be quite big, and though we might not see Twiggys passing by, we will notice cool fashionistas picking one look or item of the 60s shelves and making it work into their own styles. It’s a huge decade with a bit of something for us all. Personally I am loving the Tom-boy meets Twiggy styles with tiny T-shirts, mini skirts, huge evening chandelier earrings, granny posh bags and head scarves. Oh… and the the cat-eye shades are my all time fave. What do I hate? Those kitten heels. Can’t stand them. So I shall be sticking to the classic heeled pumps, ballet flats and gladiator sandals, thank you.

  • beehives
  • bouffant hairstyles,
  • heavy eyes
  • nude lips

Best makeup & hair 60’s inspiration is at Marc Jacobs for 2013 Spring: the heavy black eyeliner is replaced by dark grey eye-shadow, a bit smudged, shadowy like, with side parted teased hair pulled back in that retro style. I love it. For different 60s looks check out Miranda Kerr’s cover (heavy low lashes – think Twiggy), Mila Kunis (soft boho 60s style), Lana del Rey (dramatic & classic) or Beyonce (slightly pin-up). Basically we’ve got a free pass to doll up and look retro chic while channeling our favorite 60s idols, and I think that’s pretty cool.

What’s not to love, right?

Printed trousers or leggings are a huge trend this year, we’ve seen them during winter, worn with oversized sweaters and ankle boots and we’ll see them also during the warm season. The problem is how to wear this clothing item without looking ridiculous. Yes, it’s not so easy to pull out a nice outfit if your starting point  is a pair of colorful printed trousers. First of all, you should forget about  mixing prints if you don’t want to look like you’re wearing your pijamas. One of the best methods to avoid the pijama look is to wear high heels, especially if you wear the loose type of trousers. You can add a simple t-shirt and a denim jacket, a look you’ll see in the pictures below and your spring outfit is ready. Another useful advice would be to wear large prints if you are tall and smaller prints if you are a petite. ;)

You can choose from a variety of prints, tribal print, flower print, animal print, tie-dye print… and the list goes on…. and find the one you like most.

Remember one of the latest articles about black & white? Here are some nice trousers having this must have colour combination. Add a bright element to an apparently boring two colors outfit and there will be no one as up-to-date as you are…black & white, neon and printed bottom, a look to go for ;)

And of course, how could we forget about the tribal print?

We were used to see flower prints on blouses, t-shirt…anyway, on the upper part of an outfit. Check out how good this flower print pants look mixed with other monochrome clothing items.

I admit that printed trousers are not my thing, but if I would have to choose a pair, I would definitely go for a loose type to wear with high heels. This way you can pull together an outfit to wear during day or even night, if add some accessories and a big clutch.

I could never leave out of an article the animal print, it’s one of my favorites and if you know how to wear it it gives you a sexy look without putting a lot of make up on, spending two hours in front of the mirror trying some sophisticated hair styles…you just have to wear some high heels and a red lipstick ;) Try it when you have to be at your best in no time and you’ll see how well that works.

coachella-fashion (2)It’s not too long now until Coachella 2013 Music Festival is here and tons of grunge looks, bohemian styles and trashy don’t-give-a-damn attitudes will rain on us. What is Coachella? Why it’s the funkiest and coolest music and fashion event of the year, where the 90’s meet the 60’s and the 70’s altogether. It don’t get better than that, trust me! All the hipster kids, celebs, artists, musicians, bands gather in the desert to party, listen to music and most importantly look AMAZING, as if there’s no tomorrow. Of course without trying. That’s the secret. If you can’t wear it to the office, or even feel secure going out in it… than it’ll rock for Coachella. Think – you in the 90’s or 70’s and you’ll nail it. Even if you were’t even born. It’s a fun style & creative exercise.

In case you fancy it, here are a few tips on how to dress boho-chic on a budget. boho-chic-styles-coachellacoachella-fashionThis year Coachella 2013 begins on April 12 and will probably gather fantastic music & fab styles. If you’re one of the cool kids attending this year and wanna blend in fashion wise… keep in mind a few things: have fun (d’ohhh) and let your hair down style wise. Some of the must-have attire includes: vintage/grunge boots, gladiator sandals, fedora hats, cut-offs, cropped tops or slouchy T-shirts, maxi dresses/skirts, feathers in your hair, loads of rings & bracelets, headbands… oh and always a drink in your hand and a disposition to party. coachella-styleWhen you say Coachella Fashion, even though the best rule is actually no rule at all (I always encourage you to just say to hell with all the must-does) basically there are 2 styles or looks that everyone  is doing, from celebs like Alessandra Ambrosio, Kate Bosworth, Rihanna, Vanessa Hudgens to anyone attending who just loves music. So… what am I rambling about?

Grunge & Rock’n roll Style!

It’s always been a trend at Coachella, but now with all this 90’s are back obsession (click here for more) it’s bound to get even bigger. Yeah I know, is that even possible? Well…YEAH. And thank God for that. I swear the 90’s are the best, they’ve just got that effing vibe to them and liberating feeling. I mean we’ve all been there, and those 90’s rock stars (who are like our long time bff’s) will always have us in the grunge mood in an instant. Seriously now… raise your hands if you’ve never been obsessed with Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, Guns’n Roses and the likes of them? Anyone? Exactly my point. How to nail the 90’s grunge look? With the risk of sounding redundant I will however ditch on the style tips (though it’s hardly any ditching with everyone doing this look already, anyways) – cut-offs, cropped tops, bustiers, black, grunge boots, tennis shoes, flannels, flower-print-spaghetti-strap dresses, denim jackets, boyfriend T-shirts et all. Here are a few Coachella street style grunge looks for inspiration :)  alessandra-ambrosio-grunge-coachellagrunge-coachella-stylegrunge-style-coachellaBoho-chic Style at Coachella!

When in doubt always go for the 70’s look: big hats, maxi dresses, skirts or flared trousers, loads of prints and color, tons of jewelry,  headbands and feathers, cropped tops, bustiers, cowboy boots or gladiator sandals… the sky’s the limit. Here are a few boho-chic Coachella street style photos that just literally make me wanna jump on the 1st plane and land in the desert. Have a lovely weekend :) xoxo

green-dress-st-patrick-dayYes dolls we’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this weekend so it’s time to fuss about fashion again. Not that we ever stop, but I’m just saying… we so love these dress-up and party excuses. So what does a good St Patrick’s Day call for? Aside from loads of beer and great food, that is? Green invasion! Well we might not drape ourselves in green attire from head to toe, but it’s kinda fun to rock a green item for one day or a weekend, right? Gets you into the party mood through a bit of a style & fashion craze. green-inspirationgreen-blazergreen-fashion-st-patrickst-patrick=day-fashionFor the more courageous ones: go for head-to-toe green. For the creative ones: mix up shades of green. Or… if you’re not so much into this fashion craze, but don’t wanna sit the fun out wear one green item for St. Patrick’s Party: a skirt, a green blazer, a green top, green hot heels, or just don some cool green nails! Here are a few pics to get us in the green fashion mood for St Patrick weekend! blonde-veilingWhen it comes to hair this season, forget haircuts and hairstyles and focus on color or better yet coloring techniques that are uber hot in 2013! What am I rambling about? Why it’s the Hair Veiling & the Color Flipping Trends, that will supposedly be replacing the Dip-Dyed Hair. Well… I’d rather they add up to the dipped dyed style, because I finally want to do it :)  Hair Veiling is dying your hair a different shade underneath its first layer, getting subtle hair color nuances by creating hidden panels of color, so that when you flip the hair from one side to another it reveals another shade. And apparently the Color Flipping (which I would have assumed is exactly what I’ve just described) is switching the different-color-ends with the different-color-crown. So it will be a funky color on top of the head,  and then natural through the end. With denim blue being a huge color trend. Wait what? Errr that’s a bit far off for those of us who are no longer teens or in our early 20’s. Ha! But hey, if you love it, rock it! Like the girl in the photo below who is absolutely gorgeous rocking this edgy hair color!veiling-hairred-color-veilingAccording the Dailymail UK we’ll be noticing lots of celebs donning the Veiling Trend. No surprise there, I mean beauties like Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson or Khloe Kardashian have become buckets of inspiration when it comes to their dip dyed tresses. These ladies look amazing with ombre hair and light blonde or red colored ends. So, as already established hair color icons, I think we should keep an eye on their hair and see what the fuss is about with Hair Color Flipping & Hair Veiling.

Celebrities Dip Dye Hair Stylesjessica alba-dip-dyed-hairkhloe_kardashian_dip-dyed-hairombre-hair-veilingdemi-lovato-pink-dip-dyed-hairrachel-bilson-dip-dyedPremiere of TriStar Pictures' "Jumping The Broom" - Red CarpetBasically these 2 hair color trends are a more subtle version of the dip-dye hair style. Well actually it depends on how far you go with it… Speaking of color trends for 2013, here are the hottest shades to rock: Browns – ‘‘browns inspired by the rust tones on the color spectrum, giving a really flattering copper undertone that warms the face” or the ‘‘burnt brown”; Red – it’s less copper & more dramatic red; Blonde – ice blonde is in. But I would assume it’s OK to play with shades. It’s all about having fun, right? Flip that hair girl and show your daring shades… :) ”I flip my hair back and forth/I flip my hair back and forth’

Hair Inspiration for subtle hair veiling ideas: hair-veiling (2)hair-veilingice-blondeUntil this veiling color flipping trend kicks in… let’s enjoy some ”classic” dip-dyed hair for some fashion & beauty inspiration.

The dip dye hair is the in-your-face type pf style & look, so I suppose the advantage of the latest Veiling Trend is that it’s got a hidden edge to it. You could probably rock a crazy color, hide it away at the office and then take it out when you go partying. Talk about an alter ego!

Yes, it’s almost spring and you can finally pull out from the closet your favorite colorful items…it’s the best way for you, fashionistas, to celebrate the arrival of this wonderful season. Actually spring is by far my favorite time of year, it’s all about sunny days, ice-cream, long walks and happiness…the joy of living and seeing everything around you blossoming.
In terms of fashion, spring is about colors…but as we already noticed designers imagination goes further year by year challenging us to wear flower prints and neon colors during winter, lace and leather in the same clothing item, mixed prints…this spring’s challenge is to wear black and white even if the instinct would be to wear all the colors of the rainbow from head to toes. For those of you who did great breaking the rules during the cruel, cold season, this instigation will be insignificant ;)
Black & white is not only about being classy or elegant and  it’s not boring at all…you can have a two colors outfit and  rock the streets anyway ;)
Here are some nice street-style examples I find to be very helpful in building your new wardrobe.

Remember the article from two weeks ago about the baroque style. This combination of black and white with baroque elements is absolutely astonishing.

You can make your black and white outfit look more glamorous by adding some gold, it could be an oversized purse a pair of gold pumps or even better, accessories…also oversized, of course ;)

floral black whtie shorts- white blazer- gold accessories- new age street fashion

And now…. the must have of this season, a black and white striped outfit…try it, and you won’t get unnoticed. If you think a striped top and bottom in the same time would be to much, chooseonly one striped item which highlights your best features or one which helps you cover some small imperfections. Wear vertically striped, flared trousers with heels to look taller, a horizontal striped t-shirt if you want to make this part of your body look bigger… the only thing you have to remember when wearing stripes is to keep the size of the stripes in line with the size of your body. If you’re tall or full-figured it’s better to wear wider stripes, if you are petite you should choose small stripes that are closer together.IMG_8916

How about we add a bit of red to our bi-coloured theme…either it’s just a lipstick, a nice bag or an expensive pair of shoes, the result is absolutely fabulous.

If you want to talk about sophistication, excess and luxury in terms of fashion, talk about baroque style. Born around 1600 in Rome, Italy and spread shortly around Europe, baroque style is all about emotion and drama. So if you are looking for an elegant evening gown, a black one with golden embroideries will make you look like a million dollars.
Spiraling details, golden colors, lace and velvet prints sometimes combined with leopard and flower prints are features of this fashion style, a style to be adopted by those who are not afraid to be noticed.
If it’s elegant, it doesn’t mean it has to be boring, take a look at these wonderful colors in the pictures below, you can almost see Michelangelo adding a sophisticated touch to their clothes.

This season’s designers to be inspired by baroque style and create an absolutely wonderful fall/winter 2012/2012 collections are Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Dolce & Gabbana designed not only a remarkable clothing line, but also accessories, the ones to die for are the Sicilian Baroque inspired sunglasses, we’ll have a topic on that too. The spring/summer 2013 collection is also baroque inspired.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana

Baroque style is the height of elegance in terms of evening dresses. Golden embroideries on a black backdrop decorated with pearls…can you even imagine something more elegant than this?

As you already know you can mix styles, prints and clothing items to match your mood, your style or simply to try looking good day by day or for certain occasions. Here you have a modern baroque style: lace dresses that show a lot of skin paired with leather trousers….yes! we’re still talking about baroque; golden embroideries on short leather pants or…even baroque elements embellishing a casual outfit: sweaters decorated with spiraling details or baroque bomber jackets. Nowadays in fashion everything is possible :) .

Pointy Toe-street style

Baroque is also about flower prints and colors, as I already pointed out, and you’ll see a lot of it this summer because this style inspired the high-fashion designers, but low-end brands are up-to-date as well, so you won’t have to sell your car in order to buy a baroque style inspired clothing item ;)

ruffled-red-dressWith less than 2 weeks to go until Valentine’s Day it’s time for us girls to indulge into some fashion therapy, as this day is the best excuse for us to celebrate love, to shop & glam up for Valentine’s Day & Night! What to wear on Valentine’s Day? Well that depends on what you’re doing: romantic dinner, fancy evening out, going out for a pizza & beer, partying with your girls or going out with your BF and all your friends… Some people use Valentine’s Day as an excuse to go out for drinks with work colleagues & friends. Regardless of what you’ll be up to on the Love Celebrating Evening, during the day you’ll be a busy bee at the office so how will you stretch your work outfit to the romantic date or party that awaits for you? Do you think there’s a Valentine’s Day dress code? Probably not… but we love to play dress up and use every occasion to have fun and glam up a bit even for work, right? valentine's-day-red-long-dressmarion-cottilard-red-dressvalentine's-day-lookTradition (and maybe even a slight cliche) says it’s fun and good luck to wear red, the color of passion on Valentine’s Day. So let’s start early in the morning: what to wear at the office? You may go for an all red outfit: silky red top, red hot trousers (skinny or large ones) or a red day-dress that you can glam up for the night with hot heels, some Valentine’s Day jewelry and red lipstick. Add a blazer on to get a smart look. If head-to-toe red is not your thing, than one red item is enough to make a Valentine’s Day fashion statement: red coat, shoes, red skirt or top, scarf, nails or just lips… Here are some day-outfits for Valentine’s Day (via Pintrest)… :) valentine's-day-all-red-outfitvalentine's-day-red-silk-dressred-jumper-shoes-valentine'sdayred-skirt-valentine's-dayvalentine's-day-red-coatvalentine's-day-red-day-dressvalentine'sday-red-outfitvalentine's-day-work-outfitvaletine's-day-red-trouser-outfitYet when it comes to going out for the night (dinner, drinks & dancing) then I guess the hotter you look the better right? A super sexy Valentine’s Day red dress will most likely have your date crazy in love. I love red mini dresses, with long sleeves and statement necklaces. Flirty Valentine’s Day dresses also look fantastic with studded belts and hot heels. Opt for the design you feel most comfortable in and remember it’s about how you wear it and how you style it. I always say even a cheap jersey red dress can look like a million bucks if you wear it with statement jewelry (a hot necklace or big earrings) and sexy shoes. A belted trench-coat on top and a cool bag or clutch will complete this look without you having to spend your monthly wages. If however you’re a skinny jeans or leggings kinda gal... then ditch the girly, feminine & sexy persona for the hot confident edgy woman in you: red leather skinny trousers, or red jeans, red cigarette trousers with cool tops or simple blouses. I love a red pair of leather trousers with a simple red t-shirt and a studded black blazer. Hot heels & a clutch are a must and of course loads of jewelry. The most important thing though remains how you feel: fun, comfy & confident. So ditch all the fashion rules and enjoy yourselves, sometimes all it takes is a smile, hot heels, lipstick (tune in tomorrow for Valentine’s Day makeup & beauty looks) or a cool accessory to pull together the best look! The mission of a fashion blog is generally to talk about trends, but let’s talk also about styles that never go out of fashion, it’s either you like them or you don’t. This week I’ll try to give you an insight into the preppy style. For those of you who are not so familiar with this trend, the term preppy derives from the expensive pre-college preparatory or prep schools that upper- middle-class children on the United States’s Northeastern states sometimes attend. The usage of preppy in American high schools is quite often used to refer to a fashion choice, rather than the preppy lifestyle associated with upper-class East Coast preps. Prep in American high schools, simply refers to those who dress preppy. Preppy fashion started in the late 1940s and 1950s and is still an embraced style nowadays with brands like J. Press, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren representing it.

In the beginning Preppy Style was all about argyle sweaters, chinos, madras, Nantucket Reds, button down Oxford cloth shirts, polo shirts and boat shoes. These are still the main distinctive features these days, but fashion has evolved a lot over time so prep style got “altered” too and you can find your own preppy style ;)

You can choose to wear the classic preppy as in the photos below, or… preppy-look-stylepreppy-style-1milan-plaid-skirt-688x1024alexa-chung-preppy-style… you can add different textures and patterns, accessories and mix it with other fashion styles in order to create one that fits you better.
