Biggest Fashion Brand Collaborations
It is no secret that one of the most highly anticipated reveals of every fashion season is the various collaborations that get announced in the lead-up to the big event. The ideal way for lesser-known designers to get their big break or for familiar names to get a revamp, collaborations in the fashion world are a long tradition.
While some pairings might feel as compatible as chalk and cheese, these collections garner massive public interest. So whether it is Birkenstock sandals getting their second wind, or a classic Gucci handbag being reinvented, these are some of the biggest collabs this season.
Birkenstocks Many Collabs
Birkenstocks have had a busy 2022, with eight collaborations on the books with the likes of Dior, Manolo Blahnik, and Valentino, to name a few. They are somewhat controversial as people either like them or hate them. But regardless of where you fall, it is difficult to deny that these unisex footwear options are versatile, durable, and offer great orthopedic support.
Throughout these collaborations, we are still met with the traditional styles we have come to associate with Birkenstocks but made with a variety of new colors and material choices to reflect the individual designer too. Make no mistake, though, that the function and practicality synonymous with them have not been lost, despite their glamorous makeover.
No Sesso X Levi’s
During the Fall 2022 runway show, No Sesso debuted its first-ever collaboration with legendary denim designer Levi’s. The Los Angeles-based ready-to-wear brand threw it back to the 90s with an outstanding line-up of reinvented denim classics.
Baggy jeans decorated with zippers, corseted denim jackets, and oversized Bermuda shorts wowed attendees, along with denim dresses covered with pouchettes and adorning super long trains. This playful and youthful approach to fashion has helped No Sesso stand out from the crowd since 2015.
Peter Do X Opening Ceremony
Opening Ceremony and Peter Do teamed up for their first-ever collaboration as part of OC’s 20th anniversary. The line consists of Do’s minimalistic reinterpretation of Open Ceremony’s iconic varsity jackets. Two styles were made in Do’s ‘spacer’ material, while a third used upcycled parachute material from his first runway show.
Interestingly, the collab marks the beginning of Farfetch Beat, which are exclusive limited-edition ad-hoc collaborations and experiences featuring some of the most progressive voices in culture and fashion.
Burberry’s TB Summer Monogram Collection
When the face of your latest campaign is the legendary Gisele Bündchen, you know you are off to the right start. Not only does this collection feature Burburry’s recognizable past-meets-present aesthetic, but it also showcases the avant-garde nature of their brand that echos in Bündchen’s status as a supermodel.
Like most of Burberry’s instantly recognizable clothing, it is a checkered style you either love or hate. But the pieces are stylish, chic, and highly fashionable, making them a valuable collection to explore further.
Cass X Prada
For artist Cassius Hurst, son of legendary English artist and art collector Damien Hurst, sneakers have always been his canvas of choice. When he was just 14, he painted a unique pair as a gift to his father. So Prada has decided to utilize his exceptional talent to redesign their classic America’s Cup sneakers into four new, unique styles, each with standout names to reflect their individual brilliance.
In addition, Prada hopes to tap into the Gen-Z market by using a recognizable face in their generation. The limited edition collection will be further showcased with custom masks made by Axel Morin to create anonymous characters for each piece.
Catbird X Vito’s Gems
In one of the more surprising yet highly-anticipated jewelry collaborations of the year, Catbird has partnered with 91-year-old Vito Giallo, an artist, illustrator, and antique dealer, for limited edition and one-of-a-kind jewels. Giallo, a lifelong New Yorker, served as Andy Warhol’s first apprentice before being the first to give Warhol a solo show in 1954. He was also the owner of an antique store named The Carlyle, which was popular amongst celebrities and high society at the time.
In 1969, a trunk of gems fell into his possession, some of which he sold to Warhol. The remaining stayed safely tucked away for 53 years – until now. The collection represents his life in New York, his shop on Madison Avenue, the evenings he spent in exclusive cocktail lounges around the city, as well as the connection between past and present.
Telfar X Eastpak
After years of requests and demands, the black-owned genderless fashion label Telfar, who is famously known for their cult-favorite ‘Bushwick Birkin’, is finally giving the people what they want – a backpack. In collaboration with the highly respected luggage maker, Eastpak, Telfar blind released a backpack to the public, which sold out in under 10 minutes.
If you are unfamiliar with a blind release, it simply means that the customer did not see the product before purchasing it. Along with the backpack, a four-piece line-up is now available in select retail stores, consisting of Telfar’s iconic shopping bag in three different sizes as well as a new circle bag, reworked with Eastpak’s expertise.
xoxo.
