Ribbons & Bows: The Detail Trend Of 2017!

The moment a trend that is even remotely preppy rises like a bloody Phoenix, I panic. At the first sight of ribbons and bows last spring I thought nothing of it – at first – just a poor case of trying to bring back preppy style. So I concluded it all with a pfff! Phulease. #asif

But then I saw more ribbons and bows. I kept quite still. But before I knew it man it was raining ribbons and bows. They were stuck on button-downs, shirts, dresses, tops, bags, shoes, people were wearing them around their necks and hair. What is happening?!!!!

The ribbons and bows are the new accessory trend of 2017 summer. AKA the trendy tiny details that make a trendy massive difference. THIS is what’s happening.

Why the panic you might think? Well… growing up I like to think I was such a fashion lover, but looking back I understand I had a case of preppy overload. Fashion for me at a very young age equaled preppy style. Flirty skirts, bouncy hair, ribbons all around, cuteness, pretty little butterflies carrying me all around. Right. Even in my 20’s I saw fashion and style as a side of all the above, and when I felt it no longer fitted who I was I didn’t know how to seek myself in style, because you see… I was sick with preppy. (yes we are actually having this conversation.)

As years went by I shook off my so called addiction and now… when I see preppy style, or a side of it, I’m like that person who got drunk on whiskey-cola last night and can’t stand the taste of cola for the rest of their lives. You know?

It’s one of those things.

Ribbons and bows in 2017: where do I stand?

I am cured. Which means you could throw me in an ocean of ribbons and a sea of bows and I’d swim with joy. Hell, I’ll slap a few on my tops and bottoms and even in my hair and I’ll rock the shit out of them, if I have to.

You see… I’ve learned to not label so easily anymore, to mix and match styles and clash looks, to not be so damn narrow minded because there’s a million ways to do a style, and I’l take the avoid-preppy-looks as a challenge that will help me grow sartorially rather than make me limit myself.

Amen to that, and put a ribbon on it!

How to wear ribbons and bows if you’re not 12 anymore?

The latest years in fashion have proven that personal style rises over trends so much more than in the past. On top of this, designers are giving us a free pass at mixing trends and looks as a guarantee ticket to sophistication and edginess. Femininity is simple. Minimalism is praised. Opulence still rules some looks. So we have a bit of everything. With this new revolution of style no wonder we bring back old trends and put a new (bow) spin on them.

The case of the ribbons and bows is no different. Yeah they’re details closer in age to pre teens, and closer in fashion to ‘Gossip Girl’ times… but 2017 says it’s okay to still wear them and shows us how.
